Official 370 Sundancer thread

I have looked at 3 370s for sale (all 1998 models). All 3 are on their 2nd set of gas 7.4s; one is on its 3rd. All 3 had less than 500 hours when the engines were replaced. Are these engines overworked? Is this common?

Unfortunately a lot of these models had water ingestion issues as a result of the engine timing and valves being open at the wrong time. This was fixed with a change in the muffler configuration and later a change in the motor.

Check to see if the boats you are looking at have the water lift type of muffler versus the log style. My boat is a '98, but I have the water lift mufflers in talled and the engines are good.

All three have been retrofitted, and two of the three have had engine go again

Yes, this is my concern, that the mufflers and riser extensions did not totally solve the problem. In one of the two the broker said there was an oil issue with the replacement engine; the owner installed a brand new engine and was told it would not be warranteed because it's a HO "racing" engine. And on the other one the broker did not know why there was a 3rd engine replacement.

I have a 1996 370 Sundancer. I am on Lake Erie and it is a great all around and rough water boat. We stay on it all summer and cruise throughout Lake Erie, and have travelled through the Welland Canal into Lake Ontario to Toronto. I have been boating for 40 years and have had boats up o 40'

Welcome to csr noodles37.Where on lake erie are you located?

I have been there ,we bought our boat in eastlake on the chagrin river.

Ok...winter layup time and a chance to do some of those goofy little jobs I've been putting off. I would like to replace my lifelines on the bow rails, or at least repair/replace the swage/turnbuckles. They are nasty looking and its time for an upgrade/update. I may just paint the plastic line with marine vinyl paint by Sem products, but I would like to replace the hardware.
Has anyone tackled this and have any suggestions?

Have a GREAT week and a Great Thanksgiving holiday!

Last winter I did some updating, I replaced the wood grain plastic gauge and switch panels on the dash, it now looks like brand new. I also added Sea Deck to my swim platform, which is a composite material that looks like teak, it looks really sharp. This winter I am adding trumpet horns on top of the radar arch.

Did you replace the panels with the reman ones? They're pretty expensive for our boat (as I'm sure they were for yours) so I was thinking about finding an alertnate material and cutting it to size myself.

What type of horn are you going with? I want to do the same thing. I really want to go with an air horn version and place the compressor in the hidden compartment on the stbd. side of the helm seat. Any pics or brands would be appreciated.

Do you have any pics of the Sea Deck? I really like this stuff as well and would love to see a 370 with it installed.

Thanks
Bill

Noodles37,
My gage panels are all faded and/or falling apart. I'd be interested to know what material you used for the panels, what you did for the lettering, etc. A picture would be appreciated. They're pricey from Founder Pounder and there was a gut on this thread a few years back that did a few but ripped a few people off, as I understand the story.

That guy sold his templates and tooling to Flounder Pounder. I can say that their product is an exact duplicate of the original as I ordered a set of panels two years ago. It was worth every penny for the quality and ease of swapping them out.

I purchased new helm gauge panels from Founder Pounder too and, like Gene, I fully endorse both the quality of the product and their responsive service. All panels fit perfectly, workmanship was A1. The small area at the far right of the main gauge panel that contains the lights for when bilge pumps are on was not correct for my particular boat. FP understood the issue and had a replacement out to me in a few days. These panels are not cheap but compared to trying to make them yourself, they are a great value and look great when installed.

Gene,

Thanks. I've been in touch with the guts at Flounder. Panel do look nice but they're an arm and a foot. May have to bite the bullet. Not a good time since I just did a bottom job, repaired the hydraulic swim platform and the forward A/C unit has decided to make my life miserable by popping its breaker.
