Official 370 Sundancer thread

Gene:
I have experienced no problem with the weight. It is simply not a consideration. We went from Brunswick, Ga. to Stuart, Fl...probably 500 +/- miles each way...on our 1st cruise with the Hurley. Since then we have made several trips to Savannah, Ga. and south to St. Augustine, Fl..over 100 miles each way. All travel has been ICW with no more than a 2' chop crossing some sounds but I would not hesitate to take it to the Bahamas.
We have been cruising the ICW from Virginia to Key West since 2000 and having the dinghy has added 100% to our enjoyment.
As soon as I get my water ingestion problems solved, I will take pictures and post them on your site.

I purchased a 10'2" RIB this winter and am curious about other 370 owners and which roll on davit system they installed. The RIB weighs approximately 100 lbs and I plan on adding a 10HP motor which will bring the total weight to 175-200 lbs. I've looked at Hurley, Nautley and the St. Croix 820 roll on system.

I've searched and found many threads on this subject but am most curious about what any of you other 370ers have done.

Thanks in advance!

I purchased the Nautley davits for our 370 DA last year. I have a 10'2" inflatable with a 9.9 Mercury. The davits work great - easy to load and unload. Only suggestion I would have - rethink the 9.9 HP - its very heavy and not so easy to mount on the transom (we travel with the engine off)..

Good luck!

Thanks, Ron. I currently own an older 6HP, 2-stroke outboard. I plan on giving that a try first. I really would prefer to keep the motor on the dink all the time.

Andy, I made davits like mentioned above and traveled all summer with a 6hp motor attached to a 10ft rib. I can load it myself, and with help it is even easier. One of the best upgrades that we have done to the boat next to the camper canvas.

Ron,

Any chance you have any pictures that you could PM to me? I'm curious where you mounted the davits etc,. It would be much appreciated!

Angel,

First of all, thanks! That is exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I do not have access to anyone that can make the parts. It looks identical to the Nautley slide on davits. Did you make all of it yourself?

Andy,

I had a welder make the brackets similar to what others posted. I think the board was called qusak (not sure of the spelling) that I bought at a lumber yard for about $60.00. Brackets were $75.00. Purchased the weaver quick connect brackets on ebay. Then shaped the boards and assembled the pieces.

That all you need to remove! It still takes some wiggling around to get it out. Mine felt like it was still screwed down but I kept at it and it finally came free.

When I had to remove mine I called Merrit Island to ask them how. They told me about the two screws but they also said you have to give the TV a good shot with the palm of your hand near the top to break it loose. They said the black paint they use on the plywood makes it stick. Mark

Hey Guys -

I need to replace my gasoline fume detector in the engine compartment and was wondering if anyone knew where exactly it is located. At the begining of last season I kept getting false alarms - I believe it was due to excessive moisture in the engine compartment - and the nuisance alarms went away after its first 2-hour run of the season (with blowers on the whole time).

Thanks for the help...

Replacing the arch

Hello everyone,

it looks as if ol' Man Winter is finally releasing his grip on us. As boating season FINALLY approaches, I've been wondering something about the 1995 370 radar arch. From what I understand, the arch was raised 12" in 1997 or 1998. Canvas aside, how possible would it be to replace the arch on the '95 with a taller one from a '98?? I'm planning on replacing all the canvas and the radar/gps/tv antenna anyway, so I thought I'd toss this question out to this fine panel of experts.

In the end, I may just learn to duck a lot while at the helm, but ya' never know what ya' may find out until you ask. Thanks much.

It was 1998, interesting thought. I actually chose the the 1997 because I liked the overall lines better, I think its better proportioned. Visibility is not really a problem, I have no issues while sitting usually or I stand with feet spread. You could also put in a zipper hatch above the helm. But the arch?! that sounds like a big job and expensive - if you could find one but I will be interested to hear what folks have to say. Good question.

I've got to imagine that your chances of finding a '98 arch in a breaker yard is about equal to hitting the lotto and if that were the case I'd buy a ticket. There's a guy in another thread that is/will be looking for an arch on for a newer 330 because of a collapsed shed roof and I don't think he's going to have an easy time either. You'd be better off figuring out a way to raise the arch you have and it ain't gonna be cheap.

There are other features that '98's have that you could consider to be improvements. I'm sure there are few people who would consider selling. But then you would also have to find a buyer for your boat.
