Official 370 Sundancer thread

Off topic of the generator discussion. Looking to see what prop size and 3 or 4 blade combo works best for the 1995 370 sundancer. My engines are re manufactured long blocks (Gen 5 with roller cam) built to 310hp specs. Running 18 x 21 (3) blades now (Nibral), Cruise at 3200rpm is 16knt. / W.O.T. is 4400rpm / 26knts. Read thru all 214 tabs in this forum searching for an answer and really not clear.
Numbers about right for this ?
18 x 21 3 blade is stock. But I think your speed numbers seem low. How did you check those?

I originally has 17 x 21 4 blades and while speed was ok, rpm’s were low. Went to 18 x 19 4 blades. Here are the results I posted a few pages back.

“Got new props over the winter. Acme 18 x 19. Did a short shakedown today.
WOT was about 4100 RPM, Gps @31.5 mph. (vs. 3800 RPM, 28-29 mph)
Good cruise at 3000 RPM, Gps @ 22.8 mph (vs 3200 RPM, 22-23 mph)
Did 2600 RPM while still on plane, 15.1 Gps. (vs. 2900 RPM, 16.5 mph)”

Golfman 25, speed checked by fixed mount GPS and cell phone GPS.
Really notice lower speed with 6-8 people onboard as expected.

I've got the same motors in my 400, the pics below show how mine run. I'd imagine a properly rigged 370 should be running a bit faster than this, though I wouldn't be too far behind @Golfman25 at those higher RPM's :).

This is fully fueled. Once I drop below a 1/2 tank I'll pick up another 1.5mph +/-.

Ok. Maybe double check your cruise with fewer people and playing with the trim tabs. Cruise you're only getting 18 mph which seems a bit slow (while almost 30 mph at WOT, which is prob good).

Speeds checked with just myself onboard. 1/2 tanks of fuel, 3/4 tank of water. Best speed was obtained with using tabs at 1/4 of the way down.

I would have your props checked at the next haul out. Make sure they are what they say they are. You can then work from there.

So was able to get to the boat today with the kid. After thinking about it for a few weeks, I figured out a way to contort my body to crawl to the genset. Get between the engines. Lay down on my back. Then turn to my right side and crawl until I can get a hand on the oil filter. Worked great, was able to get in and out a few times. BUT, my oil filter wrench had too much play I couldn't get it tight enough in the small space I had to turn the thing -- probably about 1/2 inch. So it was a bust. Stopped at a few stores looking for a hex wrench that would fit, but all were a bit too large and would probably slip as I am assuming the filter is on there pretty well. Going to make one up in the shop -- make it a perfect fit and hope for the best. I really only have one shot at this before it all goes to hell. :)
So I got a vice grip oil wrench from harbor freight and gave it another go. Oil filter came off easy. Got the remote kit installed. Used a cheap filter to do a real oil change/flush in the spring. I’m feeling it pretty bad right now. Shoulder is a bruised and battered mess.

Did you post what remote kit you used? I’d like to do the same
I bot the Westerbeke version. Very expensive but I am sure it fits. No guessing and a single install. Should have been done when the built the boat.

red paint = $$$$ No Shite on the install. $350K boat, and they want you crawling around the back of the gen to do routine maintenance.

Yeah, stupid expensive. But imagine having a cheaper one not fit or go bad abd having to clean up the mess and do the install again. No thank you. I can barely move this morning.

roger that. Not finding the kit. what is the part number(s)? Assuming this is a 7.0 BCG? Oil filter number? 036918? Thanks for blazing the trail.

Has anyone update the gypsy on the lofrans windlass to accept larger chain? (In my case, I want to use 10mm instead of 5/16)

@370Dancer So sorry I missed you/ this post. Our boat is actually the 5th or 6th one down on the left (facing the fuel Dock)! Did you come up for work?
JJ, didn’t have much time, but I did swing by E dock yesterday. No one around, but I believe you are 2nd in from the basin on the side facing the gas dock. Maybe on a future trip we can catch up.

My 96 is probably even a little slower again, although it's always difficult to compare with different weight/loads, bottom condition and water conditions!
Keen to see what decisions and results you go with.

Anchor and chain......

Lost my anchor when the rope cut, now needing to get a new anchor and I'm going to all chain.

On the Lofrans windless, it says "5/16". What I can find is the link size, does anyone know that size?
Also, is there any particular chain type that is best?

Had what I believe was a 35# anchor - plow type. Inland lake, sand, mud, rock bottom, anchoring in 10 - 30' where wind is the biggest factor.

Anyone have any suggestions based on experience for a replacement? Would it hurt anything if I went to a heavier....44# anchor?

Thanks.....
It was an old question, and I can't see any answers, but I'm looking to confirm the same. I suspect 5/16 medium link which is unusual.

Hello from down south,
