Official 370 Sundancer thread

Installed new "triggers", and things seem to be working properly again. Will monitor things closely as I still don't understand how both units could have shut down at the same time.

Also replaced my shower sump system. Previous one would cycle on and off constantly. Figured out the back flow valve wasn't operating properly. Watched the pump cycle everything out and then shut off, then the remainin water in the line would come right back into the box (via the pump), fill it up enough to trigger the float - and the cycle would just continuously repeat.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guy get for a typical WOT speed (at what rpms) and what do you use as a typical cruise speed and at what rpms? My lakes at about 5800', and this boat is a total dog compared to what my previous 310 with 5.7L's could do.

Thanks for everyones input and putting me on the right path, I sincerely appreciate it.

Hey All,

Im new to this group and have actually read through most of the posts since you guys started this years ago. I have been looking at upgrading to a Searay for the last year or so now and I am stuck between the 380 and the 370. I like both layouts and styles but I had a couple questions about the 370 as I can’t seem to locate the info

The one drawback i feel like the 370 has is most have the mercruiser 7.4l 454 mpi engines with 310hp, is this enough power for a boat this size? With these engines what speeds are you typically running? Slowest on plane speed? Cruising speed? Top speed?
I do my boating up on Lake Ontario and the great lakes and the wind can be intense and most of the marinas (mine in particular requires you to back in (almost always against the way the wind blows so docking/slow speed maneuverability can be challenging) I know the inboards help (I have outdrives now – awful for docking) but do the 310 hp engines have enough torque?
When did the lower arch go to the higher arch was it 97 or 98? And I’m 6’ is it really that low?
How are the shift/throttle controls for the 370, I have been on 380’s and seen how those newer controls operate and the smoothness they provide, how do they compare?
What year did the power actuated hatch show up? Is it hard to access engines in models years without power hatch?
Are there any other major issues anyone has noticed with these boats that may hinder someone like myself from moving forward?
As I continue my search is there any advice you can provide on thinsg to look for/look out for both good and bad?
The 370 and 380 sundancer have almost the same layout and actually I think the 370 is better due to counter space/bathroom size and aft cabin space?
There are a lot of 370 on the market right now and a lot of them are the same (minus colors/electronics) and for me I love working on boats as my current boat I have redone most of it myself so I’m no stranger to adding/modifying anything.
I read your all your post and see the passion each of you have for boating and Sea rays and hope you can provide me some good info. As we all know boats these size come with considerable costs and work so I want to make sure whatever my next boat is whether a 370 or 380 its going to last me the next 10+ years.

Hi Dan,

I'm in the 360 and have 8.1's and it runs nicely. BUT more hp is always better as you can imagine so they dont have to work as hard and push the craft much more efficiently.

I hope this is OK.....figured this was a good place for my question....... can you 370 experts give me some advice on this boat please....what do you think?

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/1995-Sea-Ray-37-SUNDANCER-102281711

I was looking for a 340 but am liking what I see and hear about these 370's and it eliminates me wanting bigger 5 years down the road

With the exception of the steering wheel, this boat is pretty much a carbon copy of mine. From the pictures it looks like she's been well kept. Everything, with the exception of the televisions, looks like OEM to me.

What it doesn't say is the power / engines. The listing on the MM site says 1 gas?

You have to go see the boat. The 95 370 is close to 40 feet with the big swim platform. They're great, solid boats and this one looks to be reasonably priced. You need to know hours and take a look at it in person and not just pics.

Good luck!

Mark

appreciate the response....yeah the listing doesn't say much about mechanicals...it IS twin 7.4's with V-drives....I'll get more info this week about hrs and upkeep....I've learned that pics never tell the true story....hopefully I'll get down there this week to eyeball it...the more and more I look at 370's the more I like em.

thanks,

Clif

question for you 94-95 370 guys....can ya stand at the helm and drive the boat? I'm hearing that the 97 up models had the extended arches but not the older models.

thanks

Friend of mine just bought a '96 370DA, the previous owner did not know and I don't either..........entering the cabin, the swithes on the left, one turns on the lights above the sink/counter, the other one turns on the lights mounted on the steps and the V berth. He has a 3rd swith there, anyone know what the 3rd switch is for. I took mine off the wall and there are unused wires there.

On our '99, the third switch is for the galley vent.

The switches on the port by the stairs are for the overhead lights in the ceiling "cloud" by the ceiling speaker, the second switch is for the galley ceiling soffit lights and the third is the galley exhaust vent. The light switch for the stair light is in the forward master and is one of the three light switches there.

On my 98', they read from top to bottom:
Galley
Valance
Indirect
Vent

I didn't think there would be that much variation between boats and I had to look at the 370sundancer site for the pics of my boat, but...

I have FOUR switches by the stairs. one is for the Galley, one for the Valence, one for the Courtesy Lights (stairs and fwd stateroom) and one for the Vent.

Weird.

Re: headroom under the arch.....

I have a '97 370DA. I'm 6'2" and cannot stand up straight under the arch. My understanding is that the change to the higher arch was made on the '98 model year.

I'm 6' and I can't stand in my 95 without bending over a bit. It doesn't bug me at all. I could've lifted the canvas when I redid it, but I don't like the look. My choice.

I love my 95. Wouldn't trade it for the world!

But don't you have to pull the refrigerator to get at it? I looked for it underneath the galley sink and could not see or feel it.

It sure looked that way when I replaced my fridge back in the spring.

RE: canvas height - I raised my front bimini a couple inches by extending the short supports between the top of the windshield and the frame. To look at it you would never know it as it didn't change the lines of the boat at all. I'm 5' 8" (short, I know) and can stand without my head touching the canvas. I will probably get flamed for this but IMO the lower arches on these 370s look much better then the entirely to high arches on other 370s.

I will check out the switches on my friends 370 and see what is going on........thanks for the info.

John
