Official 320 Dancer Thread

My 320 is a 2003. I've been reading the forums and scoping out my boat, trying to get the courage up to install my own radar and new helm electronics. I installed my own bulkhead TV this spring, so I'm brimming with confidence. And the knowledge I've gotten from everyone's experience fishing wire through the arches. My question is about my boat. I have what appears to be a radar "platform" molded I to the top center of the arch. And it also appears to be angled to the bow. If so, I wouldn't need any wedges when installing radar. Can anyone confirm this? Is the platform on a 2003 angled to the bow so I don't need a wedge?

And while I'm on the topic, I know the radars (Garmin anyway) connect with an Ethernet cable. But is radar power also in that cable bundle? Or is there a second cable I have to run at the same time? (Sorry for this question. I haven't downloaded the radar installation manual yet)

You will have a separate power cable.

i installed a wedge when I installed my radar. The installation of the radar is not bad, just take your time. Plan the cable routing in advance,

Thanks. Did you have a 2003? I'm wondering if a wedge is needed, or would it be redundant and too much angle?

My 2002 did not have a wedge, but the radar scanner was mounted on a metal adapter that raised it up by about 4". No angle as far as I can tell. The purpose of the adapter seems to be to mount the anchor mast light. Currently the scanner is mounted on a much larger Seaview mount due to the satellite TV antenna.

Upgrading Mercury Smartcraft

Has anyone tried and/or succeeded in upgrading the old smartcraft system to a newer Mercury monitoring system like Vesselview or is that even possible?

I just installed a Vessel View a month ago. Have smartcraft guages too. Had marine max do the install. I just tied in gps data to the vessel view over the weekend. Looking to get genny data tied in shortly.

I have a 320 Sundancer with twin 350 V drives. Having trouble with Strb engine start. When start toggle is flipped to first position short engine alarm is heard (normal)but Strb gages do not power up, port switch, gages and engine all operate normal. Engine will crank but will not start. This happened Saturday evening, went for a short cruise to friends and all was fine, docked for a while and issue came up when we tried to start up to head back. Had a short blip on the strb gages the weekend before, when out cruising the gages gave an audible alarm for around 1 second and looked as though they shut off and then powered back up. Not sure if it is switch issue or if I need to start tracing wires? Has anyone had a similar issue?

Sound like your not getting fuel. My guess is a bad relay going to fuel pump and possibly damaged plug? Are you hearing the fuel pump start when you click the engine start switch? Switch the relay on the top of the engine with the relay from the other engine and see if it starts.

Swap the 50amp breaker on top of your engine $75 for a new one or take the port side and test it. My starboard one went bad and because of current issues it causes the computer to kick. It's two screws and the easiest thing to check first. Also there is a cap next to the breaker that has 3/ 20amp mini fuses that control spark and fuel check those.

Can anyone share their average running temperature on Merc 5.7 FW cooled engines on their 320. Mine runs about 150 on both at idle but starboard runs 161 on plane and port runs 168.

Mine run 151 and 153 idle or planning. Water pressure is a little less on the cooler engine. Go figure. Lake temp is 55 degrees now. I think the themostates arn't perfect.

Wondering if anyone has their Kohler connected to their vessel view. I just installed a VV and am curious if my kohler 5e can be monitored/started and stopped from the genny page on the vessel view?? I have come across SOME promising info but the threads always seem to stop just short of completion. This thread sounded promising but doesn't confirm that it works. Wow. Mine runs a lot hotter. About 180. Of course, that's reading on old analog gauges, not Smartcraft digital.

Is that on both engines?

Looking for some thoughts before I rip apart the entire fuel system. Yesterday coming through some snotty weather I started to get an alarm beep. Everything ran fine but continued to beep for the last 30 min home. when I put her in idle the starboard engine would not sync up unless I gave it a bump on the throttle, then as I was docking it acted normal again. So when I lifted the hatch I heard what I am guessing to be the fuel pump running (same sound as when we push the ignition switch down and shuts off after 2-3 seconds). All of the hoses that run to my cool fuel and fuel pump have a vibration to them. Any info would be gratefully appreciated, thanks

Post this in the general maintenance section with the heading Potential Cool Fuel Issue - you will get more eyes on it.
