Official 320 Dancer Thread

From my log (from 2010):

Performance test run (South wind ~10+mph, 1-2' chops): Full fuel, full water, Port=427hrs, Strbd=423hrs, WOT=34.7MPH, Port=4900RPM, Strbd=4800RPM burning 21GPH on each engine.

I'd say that 4600RPMS is a bit too low. Most likely your bottom and/or running gear needs to be cleaned.

I should add this is on a super fresh bottom clean, maybe 3 days prior to my trip. And the props are the original 3 blade, I have no idea the pitch, but I am sure it is bone stock, the PO put all of 60 hrs on the boat. This is only the second time I have had her at WOT, the first time I blew out my starboard shaft seal and it cost me a couple grand. I am feeling a lot more confident in the PYI ones I had put in instead.

Here comes my question...I have a 2006 320 Dancer with original 3 blade props...5.7 mags and my boat travels at approx 20 kts at 3500 RPM on a smooth day.

My frined has a 2001 310 Dancer with the same exact engines...he cruises at 24 knots at 23400 RPM...does anyone have an explanation? I had trouble keeping up..thanks for a reply...Ed

correction...friend is turning 3400 RPM

On my 320 it likes to run at 3650/3700 to be most efficient. Mine is not very efficient at 3500 rpm's

Hi All:
Well I guess we can officially join this group and become a contributor and receiver of information regarding the 320 DA series. We completed the sale of our 2008 260DA and purchased a (180 hours usage) 2004 320DA. We love this boat. It has so much more room and comfort.

The twin 350 Mag MPI, BIII outdrives on it give it quick to plane and good speed. We haven't put many more hours on her as yet since we are getting settled aboard. We have noticed a few little pain in the backyard things. i.e. leaking head port hole window. shower sump had to be replaced.

Other than that she's good to go. Here are a few pics of our new prize.

Looks like a nice boat. Enjoy the 320. We went from a 260 to a 320 - We have been happy with ours.

Good morning.
I am buying a 2004 320SD - very excited. Delivery in a few weeks.
Can anyone tell me the diameter of bow rail? I am buying accessories already!

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul:

Firstly congrats on the new purchase. As you can see from the pics above we have just purchased our new to us 2004 320DA and we love it so far.
Your bow rail is 1" diameter. Don't go hog wild on pre purchases. We found that things we thought we needed were returned rather quickly when we found out they weren't so necessary.

Good luck!

Bill

Thanks Bill!
Nice to see a fellow Ontarian! I am in North Bay.
We are quite excited - moving up from a 27' Chaparral. Going Hog-Wild is how I pass the time waiting for it!!

Thanks again.
Paul

Went down to the boat for the evening tonight, flipped on the breaker for hot water heater, and a couple hours later when we went to use the hot water, no hot water. I checked everything I could check at the end of the evening, Its worked for the last year, although we don't use it a whole lot, and it worked two weeks ago on a weekend on a mooring.

I think I may be looking at a new unit, I hear it is possible to replace the heating element on these, how easy is that and where do you buy them?

Any suggestions first off on what to check first, I am going to look at voltage to the unit, but assuming I need a new unit, has anyone done this on a 320 w V Drives and do you have to take anything big apart or is it a one day DIY job?

Hello 320 community ('02-'07 era). I have a question for you. How well can four people at the helm chat when under power (assuming the two seated at the port seat are small enough to fit there)? We love our 300DA and don't plan to upgrade, but my wife really would love to be able to have a four person conversation at the helm when cruising along. Kind of a small thing to make a $25K-30K upgrade for (same year price difference between 300DA and 320DA), but it may grow legs if she doesn't get over it.

Don't kid yourself. If you're doing the jump do it wisely.

I would say that you usually end up with maybe 1 or 2 more people with you at the helm. But not 4. You are more likely to get 3 or 4 in the U shaped seating than near the helm.

My wife loved the port seat and used it all the time when kids were with us, otherwise she'd be sitting with me. My daughter kept me company at the helm and my son was switching between helm and the port seat. When I had my 320 my kids were 12 and 5.

Hello 320DA owners!

I am looking to upgrade and the leading contender on the list is a 2002 to 2004 320DA. I am thinking I would like V-drives for the reduction in maintenance, but I have a good opportunity on a 2003 with the base engine package, twin 260HP 5.0L MPIs with BIII outdrives.

Aside from the fact that I would like to get away from outdrives, my concern is this is not a lot of power for this boat. Can anyone offer any experiences?

Also, does anyone know what the base price of these boats were new and how much the engine upgrades were? I am trying to determine what the right price deltas between different boats with different engines should be.

Thanks!

One more question that I forgot to add to my last post!

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the bed in the mid-berth bed when it is set up?

Thanks again!

I think most will tell you its underpowered. But....its the same as my boat I have owned since 2007 and put about 250 hours on. I cruise about 25 mph at 3600 or 3700 rpm. No problem getting up on plane. Full load.
the impact will probably be re sale when others have the same question. I surveyed, test drove, called the previous owner (it was a trade in) and also got a very good deal at the time. Previous owner had it 3 seasons and about 150 hours and went to a 42. All reports and outcomes were positive. Good luck.
The aft captain "bed" isn't quite a double...more like a large twin. The mid couch ....pull out a few inches...not sure how wide. My 15 year old (5' 10") sleeps on it.
