Official 320 Dancer Thread

We still love our 2004 320DA.

- I'd like a better rear canvas. When its closed up, the aft seating is cramped. Does anyone have either an extended camper style canvas, or the Taylor Fastback canvas? If so, how do you like it?

I have full canvas and at 6' 3" I can stand all of the way to the transom. It is not easy to take down but works very well if you want to have it up full time.

Re: Official 320 Dancer Thread - Standard transducer?

I am trying to figure out the model of transducer that came with my used 320. I have not seen a lot of 320s out of the water, so I'm not sure if they install similar units on many boats.

My transducer sits in a blue plastic canoe-shaped thru-hull appendage that hangs about 2" below the water in the hull in front of the engines off-center to the starboard side. It has a water wheel in it as a speed sensor. I have smartcraft, so I assume this rig feeds the smartcraft and probably the analog speedometer.

My transducer is currently connected to a small Garmin 198C Sounder, and I'm hoping to reuse it with a newer Garmin 4208 (or similar). Will this work?

As a side note: Having a hole in the hull for a thru-hull fitting is one thing, but having a large plastic appendage hanging down waiting to hit a rock is a bit unnerving. I can see the boat sinking pretty quickly if that thing were ripped off. Does anyone else think this is a bad design, or am I worrying needlessly? Any ideas on how that hole could be quickly sealed in an emergency?

Thanks,

Scott

If it works with the 198C, i imagine it will work with the 4208. Take a look at the NMEA compatibility before you change GPS units.

As far as ripping it off from hitting an underwater obstruction, i would think thats unlikely to happen. If it did, you could stop the water flow by stick a tshirt or towel in the hole. It'll stop most of the water and the bilge pumps will easily handle any water that gets in. Of course, careful reading of charts will prevent that from ever happening in most cases.

Let us know which unit you changed to and how it works out.

i just installed the garmin 4208 before the end of the summer and fogured i will shop for the transducer in the off season. i have been on garmin;s website and others i dont think that trans will run on the 4208 they show other models, the blue piece is called a fairing block and they are more money than a traditional type (not sure why) the one that came on my 03' 320 is a flat disk in the same spot as yours and is hooked up to the stock depth sounder from sea ray on the dash i believe yours was upgraded . let me know which one you go for with the 4208/

delliott00,

After having the full camper on 240DA we didn't want to give up such luxury, so when we saw a 320DA with full camper it was a big selling point for admiral. BTW, as you can see we bought the boat :)

The existing Garmin 198C is NMEA 0183 compatible, so I assume the existing transducer should talk to the new Garmin 4208. Thanks.

I had the extended capmper package on my 300 dancer. It was really a pain in the @%s. Difficult to put up and down (especially when the rain came in) but the stainless also rattled at cruise. Not a fan.

My camper naver goes down during the season. My 240 had enough rollup curtains with zippers and traps. My 320's camper is much better and has u-zippers on all sides and even front curtains. A properly designed camper makes a huge difference. Even on the hottest days we never had a need to take anything off and had enough ventilation.

Depends on what you want to spend. If money was equal I would have bought a 340 since there is a bit more room in the cabin and in the engine room. I know of a great 2007 340DA for sale (repo) you could probably get for $125K or less if you were interested. You would have to ship it but this is a beautiful loaded boat!

I ended up buying the new 320 - have had it for 3 seasons - Have 225 hours on it and have been very happy with it. Made a few mods nothing major - electronics - different faucet in the head, cockpit carpet on the cabin steps. Other than the depreciation on the new boat, I am happy with it. I drove a 320 with 6.2's and 350 mag's. I didn't see much performance difference in getting on plane. I felt a bit more power in the 3500 rpm range accelerating, but not significant. You boat looks great in the photos. I assume in the pics it was freshly waxed. Nice boat.

Why do you have different cleats toward the stern side of you boat?

This is what the boat came with, so I never thought that this not right. Do you have them the same size?

Both cleats are identical on my boat. I guess the PO must have changed them out.

Thanks, when I had the bottom painted they waxed the hull for me at no charge. I waxed the upper portion when I got her to the marina but will be keeping her looking this way all of the time! I have a few tweaks to do with her such as isenglass curtains for the cockpit, replacing impellers and I still need to replace the A/C unit that was removed (along with the water pump) but other than that she is good to go!

It's possible it just came like that from the factory. Why would the PO change them:huh:?

I have never noticed the cleats that way. But anything is possible. I assume the hole patterns were the same.

Hello guys, just want to say hello, I've just got a very nice looking Sundancer 320 - 2007 with 50 hrs on the twin mercruiser 350 and 10hrs on the gen.

I've been reading the whole thread and it looks like many of my answers will come out from here, so I'll star shooting...

Does the Clarion radio comes standard with the Sirius option already instaled? just have to call and buy the subscription? when I push SAT nothing happens..., or do I have to buy addittional equipment?

Same with the TV antenna which I guess it's the flat one on top of the arch, my 23 inch LG flat panel does not get any kind of signal for local TV, it should??

The Clarion radio has an option for Sirius satellite radio but you will need extra equipment for it. Its prewired if and when you want to add it. Mine does nothing when i press the satellite button also.

Your Glomex TV antenna wont work not that everything went to digital. You will need an analog to digital converter to get local channels now. Thats why your tv doesnt get local channels anymore.

Hope this helps

Your glomex will receive the digital signal just fine (mine does) but your TV may or may not be able to show the signal. Your TV must be a digital TV, then everything will work fine and you will get TV stations. If you have an analog TV, then you will need the converter as stated by MAKC.

Well, my TV definitively is a digital TV I happen to sell them, IT is a Flat Panet 23" LG.

Unfortunately nothing comes up when I use the local channels, any clues?
