Official 320 Dancer Thread

I also just moved up from an '06 240 to a new 2007 320. Go for the 6.2's...as with any boat purchase, always opt for the most horsepower you can...anything less will be disappointing. The 6.2's are what I recommend for this boat...takes the # of people aboard, full tanks, etc. out of the equation.

There really is not a substantial difference in performance between the 6.2's and the 350 Mag's - I have driven both. The 6.2's had a little more umph in the 4000 rpm's plus. But performance was very similar.

I have just recently purchased a 2003 320 with 6.2L's and V-drives. After having it out a couple of times I have noticed that it likes to run somewhere between 3600 -3800 RPM, tabs all the way up. This is with 6 people and full tanks, small chop on the lake. Does this seem right? I am new to the twin thing and thought this boat would run somewhere in the 3400 to 3500 RPM range much like my old single did. What have other people found is the optimum RPM for this particuliar set up? I do not like to run with my tabs down, only when absolutely needed. Found it planes quiet quickly but anything below 3400 RPM and bow starts to rise and I feel like I am pushing water, even the wife has commented on this one.

The 320 does like to ride with her bow a little high, and yes, the sweet spot seems to be right around 3650-3750 (at least on mine). Depending on conditions, how much gas, water, people and if I'm carrying my dinghy, if I drop below 3450-3500 it is straining and wasting gas..

I concur with what Barry said. I always have tabs up when on plane and control the bow been down by maintaining the cruising speed at that sweet spot (3650-3750RPMs). I always travel with tanks (fuel, water) near full with 4-6 people on board. The only time I would touch the tabs if there are chope over 3'. But, you'd have to feel how much is required to keep the ride smooth.

Barry, what is the max load capacity the swimdeck can carry on the 320? I have a jet ski I want to carry on it, but I am not sure what the weight limit is? Thanks!

That's a good question...I honestly don't remember, but if you call Sea Ray at 800-648-2821, they should be able to look it up and tell you.

Does anyone have a set up on their 320 to carry a jet ski or dingy? I called Sea Ray and they advised against carry the Jet Ski on the swim platform as it would effect the performance and handling. I have a standup jet ski and can't tow it as it will submerge once under way. I need a way to get it out with us for the weekend without someone having to ride it out. Any suggestions are welcomed...thanks.

I was actually waiting for someone to chime in with more positive info than what I've got. When I emailed SR with the same question I got response back that 320's platform wasn't designed to carry either dinghy or PWC. I thought that such response was total BS, b/c they didn't even asked me what type of dinghy I had in mind. Thus, having approx 50lb dingy (6.5') I had carried it even on my 240DA since there was anough room on the platform. I always carry the same dink on my 320DA and it fits there perfect. To be realistic about it you just need to be aware of the reasonable weight. I'm planning to upgrade my dinghy to 9' or so and I'm sure that the full setup with motor weighting around 100-150lb should be perfectly fine.

As for PWC I'm sure it'll be pushing the weight limit, which I would call the safe one. So, how much does you standup weights?

Here's one of the systems to consider, but I have no first hand expereance with it http://www.seaweedmarine.com/

My stand up is 300 lbs dry weight...I can pull it up onto the swim deck no problem from the water. My concern is with the chop in the water and the stress it'll put on the platform. I agree, total BS or design flaw for not considering the swim deck for a dingy or jet ski transportation. Sea Ray said they only tested it for "human weight" while the boat is sitting still.
Thanks for the info on that system...I wonder if I could replace my current swim platform with a hydraulic system or if that would screw up the risers and performance of the boat?

total weight on my swim platform with my dink and OB is about 250 Lbs. The 320 swim platform is one solid swim platform and i put the davit mounts right over the 2 main supports. The maiden voyage with the dink on the swim platform with the new davits was as rough as ive seen it, and everything worked just fine. I certainly wouldnt be affraid of two 150lb people standing on my swim platform, ever.

I'm sure that the question of the day is if the platform can or even designed to handle that weight while running in the various sea conditions. I would agree that platform on 320 is pretty solid, thus 200-300lbs should be fine. If I had to put a rig of 300-350lbs I would consider placing the mounts closer to where platform begins vs. the edge. This will take off some preassure as well.

IMO, hydralic platform is an overkill on 320. Also, for the money it'll cost you it would be worth getting new 3 seatter PWC and tow it behind. But, with PWC of 300lbs I would consider just have it on existing platform, as I mentioned, just set it away from the edge as possible. I would also make additional inquiry to find what's the first model SR has ratings for PWC and/or dinghy on the platform. Then, I would try to find what's the difference between that model vs. 320DA's platform.

BTW,
Last weekend I made a small error by forgetting to attach an oar to my dink while resetting it back in place, so one oar was just left laying on the outer side tube of the dink. After about 1.5hr trip I was pleasently shocked to see that oar just laying on the edge. I would never thought that it wouldn't move and fall in to the water after 1.5hr ride, although in calm conditions. However, the stupid error on my part also gives me some comfort level that platform doesn't get so much stress. Obviously, if one is caught in 8-9 footers the amount of stress encreases big time, but if all is properly set, ~300lbs rig shouldn't be a problem, IMO.

P.S. here's a link to what looks as a pretty nice system http://www.dinghyramp.com/

Note: I posted this in another thread but there isn't as much traffic as there is in this thread. Please reply if you have any knowledge of the Weaver Davits System on a 320 Sundancer.

I enjoyed the simplicity of the Weaver Davits on my former boat, a 30' Weekender. I have a brand new set of Weaver Davits in stock and would like to know if any of you have used this type of device on your Sea Ray, especially if you have a 320 Sundancer. I do have a few questions if you have:

1. Is there any problem with the slight curve of the swim platform?

2. Did you use the "quick release" plates to remove them when not is use?

3. Were you able to use them on your platform without sending them back to Weaver for customization?

4. Any problems with drilling the platform and bolting the davits on?

I'm getting short on time with my first vacation coming in just over a week. All replies and advice will be appreciated.

the Dinghy Ramp setup from Nautley uses the Weaver base plates that go into the swim platform. Since the swim platform is slightly curved, i used a small board to make a straight line and adjust the base plates to make sure they were parallel (even though this was more for aesthetics than for function). Depending on the davit setup, you may want to add the 1/4 inch plastic shim under the plates. If you are using a lifting arm setup like the Nautley's, you'll need that shim to make sure the lifting arm clears the little lip on the edge of the swim platform. I drilled on either side of the 2 main supports and bolted the base plates through. Took all of about 10 minutes. Let me know if i can help.

So I've been reading the threads on CSR about installing a digital converter box and finally got around to it last weekend. Got the Artec everyone has recommended and installed it just after the Glomex gain control. I have both the flip down TV in the mid berth and the large LCD mounted on the bulkhead.

The flip down works great - good picture on all available channels. The LCD only has a slight ghost of the image and is all snowy. It looks to me like the coax from the Glomex runs behind the galley and head then must use a splitter somewhere to go to both TV's. I took the large LCD down and it works fine when I connect directly to the converter box so I am assuming I have a problem either with the splitter, or the cable that runs from the splitter to the large TV.

Anyone know where that splitter might be buried and whether I have a prayer of getting access? Any flaws in my diagnostic logic? Appreciate any help.

DVD Question: This is the 1st time we tried to use the dvd THIS YEAR,, worked fine in the past.. TV and all other 12v and 120v systems seem to be fine..
DVD Does not power up at all neither the forward or mid berth power up..
ANY IDEAS??

Is Accessories breaker on?
