Official 320 Dancer Thread

the ipod issue is a known one, the input wires are connected wrong at the back of the Clarion unit. also check the Sirius while you are at it, most have an issue. just got mine fixed last week. My coffee maker also didn't work and MM changed the whole unit out. Everything elso works great!

I have about 11 hours on my new Searay and I love it.

love our new to us 04 320 da, 4th boat we have owned second cruiser 1st searay, nice to see all the 320 owners, happy boatin, ratherbeboating

Welcome!!! I'm going into my 2nd year with my 05 320 and still love it. Taking my first crossing of the Gulfstream in 2 weeks to go to Bimini with about 25 other boaters for a long weekend, and hoping to make it to some of the other islands in the Bahamas over the summer..

Tell me a little about your 04 320..Which engines do you have? What did it come with? Have you done any upgrades? I put in all new electronics -Garmin 5208 touchscreen chartplotter , radar, XM weather, etc, as well as a 26" HDTV down in the cabin; along with an apple TV where I have all my music, some TV shows and a lot of movies.

Enjoy!!
Barry

thanks for the welcome Barry, yeah a few upgrades, 28" flat panel on aft cabin wall, tracstar sattelite tracking system, upgraded cockpit and cabin sound, can now anchor on lake run genset watch the tube enjoy the air, (lifes good), boat has twin 350/300 horse mags v drives, abou 200hrs on each engine, drinks alot of gas, I guess you know that,ha..anyway just bought her about a month ago, moved up from a 30 foot bayliner, what a difference as far as creature comforts, keep her in a slip at center hill lake here in the great state of Tennessee, go Titans, go Big orange

I'm still getting to know new to me 320DA. While taking a short trip to our anchorage spot I was watching the SmartCraft guages. I'm getting 0.7mpg most of the time while staying around 3300-40000rpm range. When i tried to find the sweet spot in that range I was getting occasional reading 0.8mpg, as well as 0.6mpg. So, mostly I was in the range of 0.7mpg. The conditions were fine, 5-10pmh wind, with small chops.

When we slow down and going at idle or just above idle speed (1000-1300rpm) I get 1.3-1.5mpg reading. However, the AVG shows only 0.3.

Is it just me or this is normal for 320s with 3-blade props?
I understand that longer ride provides better mesuring factor, but I thought 1/4 of a mile should be enough for guages to get new readings when rpms change.

I'm new to the SmartCraft guages, so could you guys give me some tips.

Thanks,
Alex.

My problem with the Smartcraft mpg display is that it only displays data out to one decimal point. What I do is keep a log of each trip, and after each run I record the totalmiles and fuel burned in the log. I then manually figure the mpg for the trip. I'm averaging a bit over 0.8 nm/gal this year. We tend to cruise around 3700rpm @ 21 knots.

CJ, so don't rely on SmartCraft? That's a dissapointment for such expensive equipment. do you have tri-data display or like mine just tachs and speedo?

I switch 4 blades and although my gas consumtion is the same .7 mpg my cruise speed at 3600 rpm is 26 knts and its a much smoother ride. Also hole shot is much better.

folks: I have two questions
1. how do you reset the trip counter for MPG. Mine show dashes and does not record any trip data.
2. what size 4 bladed props did you install?

topgun1185,

Your numbers are surprizing in both sense. Running at 3600rpm and doing 26knts is very good, but how come the gas consumption is the same .7mpg?

I didn't do a detailed analyses of my boat's performance, but if I recall correctly it's doing around 20mph @3500rpm. If my approximate math is close to reality, then you had gained mileage per fill up by around 40+ miles.

What kind of improvement do you find with your math?

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the 4-blade props?

Thanks,
Alex.

Jimdavi - if you navigate to the page that shows the MPG, trip time, and miles traveled page, you need to press and hold the reset button for 3 to 5 seconds and all the indicators will zero out and start calculating again. Try that and see if it works.

topgun - i am also interested in where you got your 4 blade props and how much they cost. The 3 blades work ok, but when putting her in reverse, theres very little bite which would be helped with a 4 blade. Also, if you are getting 26 knots at 3600 rpm with the new 4 blades, thats awesome! I get about 21 knots at 3600 rpm which is a nice 24mph cruise speed. Its almost where GPH equals MPH. So if by switching to a 4 blade setup you are getting 5 knots at the same RPM, you could throttle back to say 3300 and save a lot of fuel at the same speed im getting. I love the possibilities on this one!

The Smartcraft MPG display is a bit too "course" to be much use underway. It's not worthless, but it could have been better. The other displays are more than worth it IMHO.

I do have the Raymarine Tri-display which really is only good for depth...the paddlewheel keeps getting gunked up so the speed only works right after the bottom is cleaned. Fortunately you can display GPS speed on the Smartcraft speedo.

You are not brave enough to pull the paddle wheel out when the boat is in the water?

Nope...mostly because where it is, I can't get a good grip on it. I think that is why they didn't attach the blankoff plug.

Access in the 320DA engine "compartment" (it ain't no room) really stinks for most tasks.

riddle me this all you 320 pro,s my 2004 320 dancer has something turning on every 30 to 40 mins, I have eliminated every posibility by process of elimination, even when all ac and dc switches are off, it sounds like a compressor of some sort, I thought I could figure it out but I am stumped, what could be cycling up or pressuring up when everything is off, (not the bilge pump by the way),not the icemaker, fridge, water system, head system,ac,etc

I'm interested in this as well. I believe it's my shower sump - and like you even when the air is off, it seems to be cycle. Hope we hear on this. ray

ratherbeboating,
What else do you observe when this takes place, is there any water comes out of anywhere (I'm thinking shower sump pump, if not the bildge pump as you mentioned). From what I remember the items like sump pumps are wired directly to batteries avoiding any swithces. This is to make sure that the boat stays floating even if you're not around. This has been mentioned in the manual, but I don't recall what else is wired the same way.

Just to add some complexity to the puzzle, there's always a chance for a pump to go off but not warking correctly, therefore you don't see any water coming out.

Good luck ,
Alex.

Good thinking on the malfuntioning shower sump. I will have to pay attention to the discharge vent. thanks - Ray

I had the same shower sump pump / float issue. Eventually my pump just ran continuously. My dealer took care of the issue. This problem arose the first summer I had the boat. I don't know why it failed.

Alex, there is absolutely nothing coming out of the boat, shower sump pump could be a possibility, but when the cycle up (or whatever) occurs, the shower normally has not been used for several hours or possibly at all, my neighbor in the next slip said he hears it cycle up when we are not even at the boat, do other 320 owners hear this, apparently Ray does, Im stumped, Mike
