Official 280 Sundancer Thread

I did try a number of auto stores and none had any that would fit, perhaps they are just not common here in Australia.

Check the wipers on your car and see how they attach. Maybe it is different there, but in the US, I know that Honda, Nissan, BMW, VW, Dodge, and Chevy wipers all use that same J-hook connecter style wipers. So even if you cant find them at a car store, you may be able to at a car dealer? Then again, if none of the car stores carry them, it must be a different standard?

I couldnt find any wide enough, only narrow ones. I ordered a couple of spares s o am stocked up now, was just trying to help others by recording the info.

I have both the air temp sensor (metal) and an auxiliary input (plastic) for the audio. The aux-in has a rubber nipple/stopper you remove. They are both black and round, about the size of a quarter. Snap a picture and we can determine which one it is.

New Member looking for suggestions on a 280....

We currently own and out grown a Chris Craft 262 crowne. We have fell in love with the 280. We started shopping around and are hoping to find one with a trailer as we prefer to dry store it, but may opt to leave in slip if deal is right.

To get to the point. What should we be looking for in a 280 as we shop around? probably looking at the 40-50k price range for used one, preferable newer model. I know that changes happen every year with models, some good some bad. Any suggestions on year /engine(what not to get or must haves) would be greatly appreciated.
We love spending the weekends on the boat and will be making the 26 mile trip to Catalina island pretty regularly so fuel economy(if there is such a thing) is a consideration with choosing a engine/drive combo.

Somewhere once upon a time I found a photo of a 280DA transom locker. Inside were organizers for hanging lines. Was that a standard option on the 280DA? Mine do not have these items. I'm tired off all of my lines lying in the bottom of the compartment all bunched together. I can't seem to search our the right terms to find what I'm looking for, and have never come across any in a boating store catalog.

I think you mentioned these.
My 2005 came with them but I use them to secure my daughter's toys.
There is also a pad at the starboard side of the locker where I store the dinghy motor(engine side of motor secured at the pad) for long cruises.

Mpmiller, thanks. After giving it some thought I'm pretty sure that that plug is a temp. sensor seeing as though the smartcraft displays air temp. and I imagine that's where it gets the info from.

There are 4 of something like these are screwed in to the transom locker of the 270. hope this helps.

Yes, that's them! And that's the photo I remember. The one's listed on the West Marine link look similiar but have a loop on the opposite end. Looks like maybe I can cut them in half and make a pair of of them. Thanks!

Glad it helped.

Does anyone know if the fuel gauge from the '01'-04 280DA Sundancers looks any different than the gauge from newer Sundancers? See my pic below for comparison. They have different part numbers, but don't know if they physically look different (or have different rear connections). I have found the pink wire in my gauge connector to be bad, so my gauge works intermittently. Wiggling this pink wire makes it work. Unfortunately, I can't just purchase a new connector from the dealer, I have to get a new gauge that includes the "pigtail".

My 2003 parts manual shows this: 1540665 GAUGE, FUEL 2" E-F SR-2" NEXTGEN
My SR dealer gave me this part : 1767746 GAUGE, FUEL 2" SGL STA 12V W/PIGTL

Here is what my current gauge looks like:

Tom, I would solder the wire myself.

Question, any one know of a matching spray paint for the helm hatch frames?

From memory 2001 had the older gauges that can be bought from Flounder Pounder and 2002 and 2003 have the Next Generation gauges. I think the gauge faces look the same but the difference is the connection on the back. As I recall they are the Teleflex "Legend Series" faces. In 2004 they started using Smartcraft system link gauges that do look a bit different and obviously would not work for you. As another said, trying to repair the bad connection may be the way to go. If they have come up with a gauge that has a pigtail to plug in to the next gen wiring that is great because Next Gen gauges have been very hard to find due to their limited use. I have been looking for a Next Gen speedo for a friend for 2 years and have not found one yet but I have seen NOS Next Gen fuel gauges pop up on ebay quite a bit for under $100.

Thats great info on the fuel gauge. I was afraid that what the dealer was quoting me might be wrong. I will check eBay. If I could figure out how to remove the pink wire from that plug I could probably fix it. I think some more time staring at it may be in order...

i am in need of a little help and my pocket book is too! i have been fighting an overheating problem in the port engine. water pumps replaced... impellers replaced... still no dice. when i am at cruise speed she wants to overheat. i trim the boat with tabs to list over towards port and she cools down. same if i come off of plane and keep the rpms up. seems to only want to overheat when at cruise speed and "level" or leaning towards starboard. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Another weekend of boating, more problems. So this time I noticed that when I turned on my bilge blowers from the helm switch, the little green light within switch didn't light, yet the bilge blowers were running fine. When I checked the toggle switch in the cabin breaker panel for running the generator, that light was on.

Any reason why the light won't turn on?! It's really bothersome as I keep an eye on that light to let me know the blowers are running properly.

Added a TV in the Cockpit. I've attached a couple of shots. Let me know if you're interested in the details. I'm very happy with how it turned out. ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21371522419.780803.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21371522444.240811.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21371522457.689767.jpg
