Official 280 Sundancer Thread

What voltage and amp hour batteries are they? The AC and pump will draw 7-8 amps at 120 volts. Thats 70-80 amps at 12 volts, batteries are only rated for 50% discharge usually, figure 70% duty cycle and some loss due to inverter inefficiency and cable loss - dealer probably isnt that far off unless you have some pretty good sized batteries..

I am really a num nuts when it comes to any thing electrical. From what I can tell the two batteries are MCA 81, COA 650, and it said average minutes @ 23 amp draw is 225.

About an hour of AC at 100% duty cycle was a good guess for a pair of those, not enough battery for any real AC use - unless there is six more of them hidden somewhere :)

Hi, Anyone recognises a 280 -04 named Miss Gorbie II or similar from Beaufort, NC?

So, if Sandy wasn't bad enough, there's a nor'easter forecasted for midweek. I thought I'd get going while the going is good and have the boat hauled within the next couple of days. Well, I winterized the AC, genny, and freshwater system today, and I'll do the engine on the trailer. I removed the input to the freshwater pump and put the line in a 5 gallon tank of antifreeze, and the pump would not suck up the antifreeze. Luckily, I had a nice 12v Jabsco transfer pump, and I purged the system with pink using that. Does this mean that the freshwater pump is on it's way out? The water pressure was on the low side, and I'm wondering if it gave out altogether.

Does anyone know what size anchor rope and chain came with the 2003 280DA? The winlass is a lofrance marlin

My Kodiac plow has bent several times. Looking to upgrade to something stronger CQR perhaps. Anybody have any suggestions on what fits well?

I too would like to replace the Kodiak plow that came with my boat. It does not hold well in the thin clay mud we have at the bottom of Lake Norman. Anyone replaced with a danforth type?

:huh:Battery charging problem, installed 3 new group 27 marine batts. whats happening is port alt only charging approx 12-12-5 at first but after running and hr or so comes up to 14-14-5 like starboard motor, wondering if onboard charger is failing.what do u guys think??

I'm thinking a weak alternator on port engine, maybe bad diode??

Lance, I had a bad port alternator and changed it out. My Smartcraft gauge now shows 13.5v compared to 14.2 v on the starboard side. I checked and it's the same alternator as the old one and as the starboard side. I have yet to get a good answer as to why it shows lower than it did before.

Hummmm Perry, I'm gonna connect the hose to it and run it and check output w/a Fluke meter and see whats up.:smt017

I have the same situation, and thought there was a problem as well. After removing and bench testing the port alternator, it tested perfectly fine.

The port is always showing less voltage than starb. My thought on this , is that everything on the boat while running is drawing off that side of the system

That's a thought....... Still seems weird though.....:smt115

I agree especially when I bought the boat both outputs read the same and only changed when the new alternator was installed.
all batteries are new, did a volt check accross all new batts with nothing off, 13.4 and 13.6 static, on running. I started port motor, 14.3 at idle and 14.5 at 2000 rpms, but guage only showing 11.5 at both speeds......:smt013

Hello, I have sold my 2003 Sea Ray Sundancer 280 and I have a few extra items for sale.

I have a Tonneau cover, I have center and port isenglas replacement for visor curtain. Brand new.
I also have impeller for the Kohler genny. Rather than make money on these items I would prefer to get them to a fellow sea ray owner and not just yard sale the items.

Contact me if you are interested. Donna 205-837-3283

Has anyone flush mounted a Garmin 740s GPS in the space above the steering wheel? My VHF is currently mounted there and needs to be replaced. It looks like a 740 would fit without any issues.

I mounted a 720 (same thing) on a bracket just above that space where the fuel gauge is, and relocated the fuel gauge above. It didn't seem like it would fit perfectly flush mounted, and I was worried access to the touch screen would be awkward behind the steering wheel. I am very happy with the installation. All the gauges are visible and the screen is easy to access. I have some other pics if you are interested.

It would be a tight flush fit. I hear you with the awkwardness accessing the screen. With the wheel tilted all the way down I would be able to see it pretty clear. I’m going to pull the VHF tomorrow and see how much room I have. My brother bought a 740s at the boat show for his boat so I’ll size it up before I get the saw out.
