Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Tonka, good luck with your sale and purchase! The boat looks nice and clean in the pictures. You should have no problem selling it.

Question guys....the two speakers on the port side in my cockpit are not working although the two starboard speakers are fully functional. Any ideas as to what the problem might be here?

What about in the cabin? If there is no sound on one side there the stereo, is dead as the left and right channels for the cabin are a different set of wires than the left and right fed to the amp.

If there is port & starboard sound there, the first place I'd look is at the amplifier connection. Mine is located inside the mirrored closet in the cave. There is a single two headed RCA plug cable that runs from the stereo head to the input side of the amp. The speakers are individually wired so I doubt its the output side.

Was down at the boat at lunch time and snaped a pic. Figured you guy would be asking.

My seat it set up the exact same way as the pictures. I would think they are all like that?

Great, thanks for the pics! And no, not all seats are like that, unfortunately. Mine is not. I only have a single aluminum post that the seat sits on top of.

But I will go and re-verify that...snap a couple of photos for comparison.

My midcabin port locker mirrors are started to coming off a little around it edges.
When I touch slightly onto them they stay like nothing happened, but when hit a wave or running on chopy/rough seas they again come off.
In long cruises I secure them with sticky paper tape but that's not estheticaly looks good.
Has anybody faced this or can recommend a better solution before I broke them ?

I had the same issue with full length mirror in the head. Squeezed some silicone sealant in and clamped.

Those mirrors are acrylic so not to easily broken. Whatever adhesive you use should be compatible with acrylic mirrors or it could damage the mirror back coating. They make adhesive in a tube and spray adhesives that are ok for that app. Do you have a glass company near you? It is easy to remove those two little doors, take them in and let the pros do it. If one is damaged they should be able to make you a new one with reasonable cost.

Woody,
Thanks for the info, gonna try that way.

What I did with the mirrors was to take the doors off and bring them home and use contact cemet to put them back on I glued the head mirror with contact cement also. Worked fine.

Both forward cabin speakers were working and confirmed that the two wires into the amplifier were secured. No change in the cockpit. I then reversed the two wires into the amplifier and the the port side started working and the starboard side shut-off. I am not sure what needs to be done but I imagine it will start with replacing the wire ends into the amplifier.

Yeah, sounds like the connecting cable is bad, either at the amp end or the stereo end.

Has anyone tried to replace the hot water heater in their 2004 280 Dancer .. If so how do you get to the back screws ????

They're not fun that's for sure. I first tried a 18" screw driver, laid over the engine and felt for the screw head. I found the screw head but couldn't get enough torque in it to break them loose so I ended up using a ratchet with extensions. Finding the screw heads by feel is not easy when laying over the motor but it can be done. I've heard some people just wrestle with the WH and yank them out. I didn't want to do this. WHen re-installing the new one I made two L-brackets and screwed them into the bottom side og the WH so I could secure it without having to deal with those back screws.

12 v outlet. --ok, i spent two hours looking for the 12 v outlet in the cabin/galley of my 2008 280. manual says there is one but I didnt see one on the drawings and couldnt find it. Am I really missing it? Why wouldn't they put a 12 v outlet inside? I wanted to use a small 12v/120v converter to run the tv when cruising so dont have to turn the generator on. Seems a waste to run the generator for 70w TV. Any solutions you guys have found. I could run a cord to the helm but seems like there would be a better way.
thanks
