Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Since we are on the Dinghy topic, does anyone know if a 2.5HP Mecuery will fit in the rear transom locker?

I have a 2,5Hp Tohatsu not sure size and weight similarity to your's but assuming almost identical.
There is padded/vinyl at the top starboard corner of stern locker and straps where I store my outboard motor side to the padded area and 4 straps holding the longutidual part.
No moving in rough sea conditions.

Are you using the existing straps or something that you added? Also how tight is the fit? Does the motor just fit or do you have some room to spare?

Yes, I'm using the existing setup.
Let me take a photo of that place today. Don't think should be diferent your's and mine as mine is European version 315DA.
Currenty I don't have the dinghy and motor onboard but try to put there and take a photo to.

Here is the photo of my straps and padded area. I think same with your's.
It's now full of my daughter's toys, gonna put the dingy and motor next week.

New owner here with 2006 280 Sundancer w/ Kohler generator. The generator starts and runs no problem -- the issue is when I turn off the shore power, slide the cover to generator and turn it on ... NO Power. The generator is still running but no power the green light isn't on and the needle doesn't move. Can anyone help me? Am I missing a switch? Thank you so much for the help.

Yes, you are missing a switch. There is a small master switch on the genset itself that is located near the start/stop switch on the genset. It has likely been bumped to the "off" position, which is easy to do. If this switch is in the off position, the generator will run all day long but not deliver 120V to the electrical panel in the cabin. 99% probability that this is your issue. Easy fix.

Those straps...what year is your boat? Are those standard on all of our 280DA's? Because if so, mine are missing (not surprised). And in either case, I'd sure love to have those to keep my lines organized! Wonder where I can find them...?

Yes, they are standard. They do work great for holding extra lines.....I only have 3 though.

My 2005 has them. Sea Ray part #855809, described as rope, dockline strap wht w/hdwr (short style). I wouldn't be surprised if you could also find them aftermarket as well.

Thank you so much Russ - I will be back to my B.O.A.T  this week and will give that a try. Thanks for the quick response.

You're welcome. The switch is labeled "AC Circuit Breaker" and is just to the right of the Start/Stop rocker switch and hour meter mounted to the genny. ON is in the UP position, and it is real easy to bump it to the DOWN and OFF position while maneuvering around down in that oh-so-spacious engine bay. I've done it myself. This is almost certainly why you aren't getting power to the panel.

Fair Warning: The next 50 issues that come up for you and your new boat won't be near this easy to resolve.

Thanks Melida......That is what mine looks like except for the foam pad. The engine I will be using is a 3.5
Hp. I think it is the same physical size as the 2.5. Its a two stroke probably about 5 to 6 years old so it must be very similar to your Tohatsu.

My boat is 2005 and dinghy and motor bought same time by PO. Below is a pic of I generally carry mine. Motor holds app. 1L gas and runs 1 hour. So while it's full of gas I don't store it in the stern locker both for safety of keeping gas in closed locker and for not dripping gas from the motor and backway to it's inside and carb.

Mine is 2005 and 315DA European equivalent of your 280DA.
I looked to the 2005 280DA parts manual and in page 5-6 number 8 855809 ROPE, DOCKLINE STRAP WHT W/HDWR (SHORT STYLE) but the pad is not shown. Don't think it's a necessity to comply CE requirements or done by PO which looks factory done.

Hey everyone,
I want to buy a new set of duckbills for the Vacuflush and would like to make sure of what size I need...the boat is an hour away and don't have the pump model #. Am I safe to assume I need 2 pairs of the 1 1/2" duckbills? I see there is a 2" version as well so I am a little unsure. The dealer here doesn't seem able to tell me for sure.

Thanks!

Update: I called SeaLand...they said the 1 1/2" are definitely the right ones. The 2" are only used on a large M-series pump. Correct part number is 385310076.

Russ, thanks! I need to look those up, or a similar looking item elsewhere. I could really use those!

Two weeks ago we used the windlass for the first time this year. Everything worked great, not a problem. This weekend I went to use it again, and nothing ( I know others have had this problem in the past). We were lucky enough to be a few hundred yards from my friends mooring so we hooked up and I didn't sweat it too much.
So tonight I went down to the slip to trouble shoot it (former U.S.Navy electrician, specializing in DC). Here were the symptoms, nothing worked. The starboard keypad did not work or light up, just the windlass control, all the rest worked 100%. I checked the aft breakers by the battery switches, all good there. Next, the aft EIM breaker, also good and not tripped. The fuse on the solenoid also was good. Got power to one side of the solenoid, also good.
Next I went forward to the anchor locker and checked the connections, everything looked good. The schematic showed a fuse coming off of the foot switch but I was unable to locate it (Hmmm.)
so back again to the keypad and forward EIM. forward EIM breaker is not tripped. I unplugged the switchpad and replugged it back in, still not working. I pulled out the the forward EIM, pulled off the cover and checked the breaker, also good.
So here's the only thing I notice, every switch on the starboard pad works and also lights up when you push it. every switch also activates a relay whether it is hooked up or not. For example, the port wiper switch will light up and activate the relay in the EIM when pushed, but I don't have a port wiper. Again the only switch not responsive is the windlass. If I unplug the switchpad and plug it back in, all the lights(including the windlass) go on for a second.
So I'm leaning towards the switchpad being bad (part #1718618) but I'm wondering about that foot switch fuse up front that I can't find.
Any Ideas?

JJ, there is a breaker for the windless in the engine compartment on the port side just forward of your batteries. Check to make sure that didn't get tripped.
