Official 280 Sundancer Thread

See posts #743 and #744 in the 300DA Questions forum. Some good info on replacing with more accurate Royce senders

http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/458-300-Sundancer-questions?p=537386#post537386

Thanks! The Royce Flexi-Sensor is exactly what I'm going to replace my current one with. I've heard good things about them, confirming what the guys in the 300DA thread say.

I'll contact them and see if they know the answer to the size I need to purchase ahead of time.

Thought I would share a problem area on my boat that you guys might want to look out for. I was doing my risers and manifold this winter and noticed my starboard trim pump had some rust on it. Before I installed to starboard manifold I decided to pull the trim pump out and repaint the bracket. Turns out it was beyond a paint job. The good news is that I found stainless steal replacement bracket on ebay for half the cost of a new steal bracket from Mercruiser. I'll have to take a look for any leaks or drainage issues when I re-install the pump. At least I don't have to worry about rust anymore.

Glad you posted this. I had the same problem with my Port bracket. I think those painted Merc brackets are just cheap and seem to rust out easily. They replaced mine when I bought the boat and moved it further away from the batteries as well. What was the Merc part number for the SS bracket you found?

Very nice find. No idea why they aren't stainless in the first place...

I am doing the same project..Make sure to check the water shutters all 4 of mine where gone.My trim pump bracket on the starboard side is also very rusty-I was also thinking of getting battery pads to absorb any acid that might drip out from charging...(I know if you buy those gel batteries you won't have that problem...but walmarts are hard to beat for $85.00) I am also changing all the boots and shift cables -the boots where shot and so was the shift cable - starting to stall when shifting -also I noticed a lot of cracks in the oil reservoir line -just fyi I was going to replace mine anyway
But as Gunn said.... nice find:thumbsup:

Along with the maniofls and water heater I'm going to replace the plugs, rotor and cap. I've read where the OEM plugs are the AC 41-932 plugs. Is this what the majority are using or is anyone using the NGK's Also, can the cap and rotor be purchased at a NAPA type store or should I order online? What is the part number for the cap/rotor?

My plugs are AC Delco 41-993. I used NAPA caps and rotors and I found 1 bad cap and rotor out of the box! I have heard the oem's are just as bad....

I am using the AC 41-993 Iridium Plugs as well. 41-993 is the recommended plug at least for the V8s. I honestly don't see any reason not to use the Merc recommended plug. I changed both cap and rotor kits last year with Merc Cap/Rotor Kits and they were perfectly fine out of the box.

Here is the Merc Spec Sheet- http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/ROCKETBOAT/2008-12-09_042519_SPARK.pdf

As you will see noted in the spec sheet, the 993 is the direct replacement for the 932

What's the difference with the Iridium plugs? Do you know the part number for the cap/rotor? Thanks!

I cannt recall the exact technical advantages of Iridium over Platinum but there was a good thread on here about it that I referred to at the time. If I can find it I will let you know. The Iridiums are better but it is not a huge difference.

I am not sure what the p/n is for the Cap/Rotor Kit for the V6 Engines. I would enter your engine serial number at http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com for the most up to date part number. Heck, you may even find an updated plug specification.

Hey Donnie, I found Mercruiser Cap/Rotor online for about $80 per motor. Do you have the part number for the NAPA stuff and approximately how much were they?

I have an account with Napa and I will have to dig for the invoice. I'll try to later.

Does anyone have a part # or info on the overhead 110 galley light above the sink, mine has a 12v and 110 volt bulb, I'm looking to replace the 110 bulb with a LED because that thing gets REAL HOT!! I've already replaced all other cabin and cockpit lights w/LED bulbs. Thanks in avance, not sure if it is a E27, E28 or what..............

Here is the replacement bulb Lance. It is a strange, non standard base with odd thread spacing, hard to find. Not sure if you will be able to find a LED replacement but I have been suprised before. Good Luck! Let us know if you find one.

It's a e14 bulb but when you try to order one in led most sites say it's replaced by an e15. I just ordered 2 and its not right. E15 is a smaller base. When you find one post it.
