Official 280 Sundancer Thread

BTW - DO you have any issues lauching your boat with the anchor? Maybe I do not have the winch post set right, but when launching or pulling, the anchor platform is always an issue.
Thanks,
Mike

I have pics here somewhere in a thread of the bunks I added in the front. It allows the keel to ride up before the anchor hits the roller when I'm at a steep angle (like low tide)! It hits just a little when I dump her in because of how far I back in to let her float off while my wife is holding the ropes but it's not hard. Loading with power is a breeze with the front bunks. Do a search. If I find it later I will post it.

Here's the post on floriduramax's trailer mod...I still want to do the same thing to my trailer!

I've owned my 280DA for 7 months now and not until Sunday did I realize my "280 Sundancer" decals are missing! This is the decal that is right below the SeaRay logo emblem on the radar arch. I am looking for a nice photo of one so I can ask my local dealer to order a set for me. There are two different styles that have, so I would like to show them the one I need so I order the right one.

Could someone provide a nicer photo than the stock one I found of the logo?

I was buffing the boat and came across an area on the arch where the fiberglass looked kinda funny. I kept looking at it and suddenly I saw the words appear. So even though the decal is completely gone, if you look *very* carefully, you can see where they were. Not sure why the previous owner removed them, but I would like to put them back in their place.

Thanks!

Tom

Hey Donnie, I had the dingy on the platform davit, outboard and fuel tanks against the fold down seat full gas and water, planned out w/no down tabs.....but it was slooooow!!!!
Mine probably would have eventually, but I don't like looking straight up for that long!! It seems like it's harder on everything to let it plow like that! With the tabs full down it comes up about like when it's empty.

Here is one of mine I found

Here's a picture of my lettering and Sundancer logo. I'm going to order the new 280 decals for mine. The new ones are a block lettering without the image of the sun -- more modern looking in my opinion.

Good Day Gents,
Wonderful thread you have going here - enjoyed reading every bit of it. Allow me to introduce myself - Old-Thirty-Three here. New (to me) 280 Sundancer owner as of April 1st. Enjoying every minute on the boat. Hope to hang out here and start offering help where I can.

To start off - I'd like to offer up a response to a common question on the thread - A Battery Switch Map. I recently replaced all three batteries and wanted to document the switch configuration. Here is a copy of what I put together. Hope it can be of use to a few folks:

Battery-Switch-Map.jpg

Second - I have a question for those of you who have your boat Coast Guard documented. Where did you "mark" your documentation number?

From the USCG:
The official number assigned to documented vessels, preceded by the abbreviation "NO." must be marked in block-type Arabic numerals at least three inches high on some clearly visible interior structural part of the hull. The number must be permanently affixed so that alteration, removal, or replacement would be obvious and cause some scarring or damage to the surrounding hull area.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards!

Hello and Welcome! I didn't document mine, but the previous owner did. The numbers are on the edge of the starboard stringer just behind the holding tank and runs parallel with the vacuflush unit. I can take a pic if you like.

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me where the breaker is for the windlass on my 2008 280 Sundancer.

Thanks in advance.

Is the dash windlass anchor light working?

The windlass has multiple breakers, fuses and relays.

If the dash anchor light is not working then see if resetting the EIM breaker does the trick.

EIM inside the engine compartment, port side, above the batteries. This is the location for the breaker. Push to reset.

The fuse is on the windlass motor in your anchor locker.

Tom, get the new 280 decals, I did and they look alot better, they also don't have the silly looking sun on them.

Yes, Got them from the dealer, don't have a pic yet but they were'nt too bad of a price. The 280 decal is separate from the sundancer one, so you need 2 of each, and place them as they do on the new model boats, same area as ours are from the factory. Lance

Thanks for posting that diagram. I am sure it will be of great use to many.

For the USCG REG Number, I have mine on a plate attached to the front of the wooden platform that the generator is mounted on. This way it can be easily seen as soon as the hatch is opened. This prevented me from having to screw in to the stringers or other part of the hull. I have heard of folks simply placing vinyl lettering on some part of the hull then covering it with a coat of clear epoxy. Not sure it is necessary to go to that extreme though.

I have a plaque that I screwed and glued to the floor of the transom locker.....but, I think that Jason and I are not in complete compliance. The CG says it needs to be attached to the hull -- not attached to something that is attached to the hull. Most people have them screwed and glued to a stringer in the bilge or they use vinyl lettering with a coating of rubber cement over them.

I too agree we are likely not 100% in compliance with the stated rule on the Reg number marking. The way the rule is written leaves lots of room for speculation though. For example, we can argue that the plate is secured permanently to the hull with screws and removal of the plate would leave holes showing where it was removed as it states in the guidelines. They are just not specific enough.

If it is ever brought up to me, my plan is to point out how many boats do not follow (even closely) the clearly stated 4 inch height requirement for the transom lettering of Name and Hailing Port. Although I have been told it is a decent fine if you get a ticket for it, I don't know how much they look at that. I spoke "off the cuff" to a CG person one time and was told something like, we don't pull out a tape measure but we can tell the difference in 3" and 4 " lettering. I took that to mean, as long as it is close you will be fine. The way I figure it, at least I have the most obvious part in compliance and that is the best I can do. :)

Ok, so maybe the older "Sun" logo is not cool and that's the reason why the previous owner pulled them?!! :smt001 I thought it looked pretty nice. But...if everyone so far is in agreement that the newer ones are nicer, then that is what I'll go for. In fact, I wonder if we can even get the older ones anymore? Probably not...

Your avatar is a tease...*please* post a larger picture!

Nice map! That should be part of the Owner's Manual.

In response to your USCG mark, mine is documented and I have a large plate with the numbers attached in the bilge, to the starboard side stringer nearest the keel of the boat, facing the keel.

Gunn, I like the sun on the decal. After all it is a Sundancer...and it is not the new smaller model!!
