Official 280 Sundancer Thread

The horn on 280 Sundancers are a recurrent problem. My boat is three years old and this will be the third horn. Basically, Sea Ray is mounting them upside down. The diaphram mechanism should be mounted up (so water will drain out), but there isn't enough rooom between the cutout and the bottem of the deck. As a result, water accumulates on the diaphram.

Has anyone solved this or do I have to fab something?

OK so I know this is on here somewhere but my search can't find anything, I installed a Lewmar V700 Windlass last year. The only thing I didn't do was connect it to the helm, I just use the wired remote I bought with the windlass. Well it's a new boating season, and I found what appears to be the factory wiring for the Windlass helm switches. It appears that they just need to be connected to the aft EIM in the ER. Has anyone done any wiring work on the EIMs? Is it easy to plug the wires in, (I'm pretty comfortable with the wiring of the boat) or should I be calling for help?

Please start by turning all power off, do not have your boat plugged in, and remove your wedding ring. I am serious.

You should not need to open the EIM.

That black corrugated tube with the big wad of black tape coming out of the EIM has a wire lead for each item in the EIM.

The wires are color coded. You can download the color code wire schematic from Sea Ray. http://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/Company1729/1C1_23_74DEJALQ4AI.pdf See drawing 09-614 WINDLASS WIRING DIAGRAM on page 36 of 46. Also see 09-601

You need to remove that black tape, find the wires that do a pigtail dead end inside the bunch of wires then look for the wires with the color coding you need.

Does this help you?

Thanks Presentation, I was afraid it might be a case of having to open or worse yet pull the EIM off the wall to locate the correct wire. Hopefully it a simple wire connect, maybe a simple thing on a boat! I will look today and report back!

Happy Memorial Day to Everyone!

i spent the weekend wrestling with the instrument panel. i had to replace the port side gauge. how in the world can you get that panel off? it got bound up in the middle and made it impossible to get off without breaking it all to pieces!? i was able to get the gauge in... but realized that night that the lights arent working on the gauges so it has got to come out! any ideas?

Is there any method, other than using a multimeter and trial-and-error, to tell which of the RED/VIO wires will be for ACC1 and FWD ACCY (I am assuming these will be the only unconnected RED/VIO in the FWD EIM harness...could there be more)?

Also, diagram 09-602 is the only place I can see the color codes. Is this the appropriate place to look?

I want to use ACC1 to power my NMEA2K bus, and FWD ACCY to turn on my new chartplotter and VHF. My understanding is locate these two terminated leads from the EIM bundle, and wire them to the power leads of the devices. Finally, is an inline fuse still required for each device, or does the EIM take care of this?

Thank you!

@Florida, Can we see some close ups of the straps? I would like to add those.

Thanks,
Mike
There's a post on each side. One is to wrap around the rolled curtain and hold it up on the opposite side and the other is on the inside so you can extend the straps sideways and snap them so they are not just hanging.

@Florida, Thanks for the pics, I will have to look at that again. BTW - DO you have any issues lauching your boat with the anchor? Maybe I do not have the winch post set right, but when launching or pulling, the anchor platform is always an issue. I have even cut my winch post off just above the winch mount.
Thanks,
Mike

Ha!! I fought with that for a couple of launches and said to hell with that!! I have seen people take off the winch stand and install some carpet covered stops down low and strap the bow down, but that just doesn't look safe to me because I feel if I'm going to have an accident it will be me rear ending some fart that pulls out or slams on his brakes in front of me and I dont want that big beotch on the back of my truck! I have pics here somewhere in a thread of the bunks I added in the front. It allows the keel to ride up before the anchor hits the roller when I'm at a steep angle (like low tide)! It hits just a little when I dump her in because of how far I back in to let her float off while my wife is holding the ropes but it's not hard. Loading with power is a breeze with the front bunks. Do a search. If I find it later I will post it.

Well it looks like me and the Admiral are having 20 foot-itus!! After this awesome long weekend on the boat, I think the most aggravating thing is how low the stern sits and bow high! Nothing wants to sit on the tables:smt021 I almost lost a whole container of fresh made RED rumrunner:wow: I would love to know if the SR engineers and designers really think it's cool to have to live with that great of slope:smt021:smt021 My swim platform was touching the water when full of everything. After running her down on gas and water, she is finally about 2-3 inches off the water but is still way down in the back. I really like this boat and the ability to trailer, but I hate the stance inside. Looks great outside:huh:
There was a Bayliner beside me that sits level in the cabin and cockpit! Sorry for the rant, I feel way better now.

Your cockpit table is adjustable so you can set it level (even if the boat isn't).

I don't have that problem w/mine, even w/a 100# dingy on the swim platform davit the platform aft lip still didn't touch the water. hold on to your drink harder... LOL

True and I have the same problem. I put a towel down on the wet bar for the blender or drinks (it helps but not a true solution) or drink faster so you don't have to put the drink down (LOL).

I have the dingy on the bow now. I guess I will have to go all chain for the anchor! I hate to add more weight as I have to have tabs full down now to get on plane when loaded. But maybe the weight up front will help:huh:

It wasn't a just a drink...it was a half gallon container! We figured out the towel trick on all the counter tops!

Damn, you're drinking half gallon containers of Rum Runners, I need to start partying with you! :)

Just me and the Admiral! It was, afterall, a "holiday"..lol

No kidding, we were out Saturday through Monday (although we didn't spend the night). I should have bought stock in Budwieser and some rum company's before the weekend. My body needs a vacation from the holiday weekend.

Hey Donnie, I had the dingy on the platform davit, outboard and fuel tanks against the fold down seat full gas and water, planned out w/no down tabs.....but it was slooooow!!!!
