Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Quick one for those who are close to their boats or may already know the answer. I am contemplating the design and location of our boat name (Four Turtles). Does anyone know, or is there anyone who can measure the width of the transom locker hatch? If possible, it would also be helpful to know the available height between the latches on the bottom and the grab bar above. Similarly, what about the height between the top of the shore power inlet and the bottom edge of the locker?

Thank you very much if you are able to help. I would measure it myself except my boat is still shrink-wrapped almost an hour away!!

ReLAXin, I would ask them to show you as much as they are willing to. On a boat of this type, you can never know too much. I would definately ask them to show you all the safety items, bilge pump, blower, halon, thru-hull cut-offs, location of any electrical panels, siwtches.

If this is your first boat, I would recommend a boating safety class. Regardless of any past operating experience, I do not think insurance companies do not usually count that unless you are the owner. It may save you a few $ and help keep things safe.

Hi everyone, soon to be new owner of a 2010 280, 496, gps, gen, etc. This is my first boat so I'm concerned about what i should look for during the sea demo. Should they demonstrate everything is in working order, windlass, gen, ac/heat etc. Or should i expect, here it is, it floats, sign the contract. Advice of what I should look for? Any links would help if this has been covered, ( ive looked), thanks.

I would just have a look at everything as best you can and make notes, like buying a car. (If not through a reputable dealer then have a marine mechanic have a look.) In the first few months you might find some details for them to fix under warranty. If your boat is going to be around salt all the time I would ask about the warranty and an extended warranty. I went with the max warranty and I am glad I did! BUT, keep in mind we keep our boat in the salt water. They are good boats. Have fun and Congrats!

Prost,
Rich

Is it possible to add the electric actuator for the engine hatch on the twin engine model? This thing kills my back to lift. Once it comes up a couple of inches, the struts lift it, but those first few inches are brutal. I would like to have my big cooler set in place and be able to raise the cover to get my grill or just inspect the bilge on occasion. Thanks in advance!

Until you get the actuator...make up a loop of line the correct length, that allows you to wrap the tee handle and lift those first few inches while standing straight up.

Several have asked for pictures of the new Corinthian Marine Snap In Carpet (Aquamat) I just purchased and installed. The carpet is R6302 Desert Sand w/ Linen Sunbrella Binding upgrade. I like it better than the "traditional" berber design.

Here are some pics. I am very satisfied with the carpet. I am certain it will hold up much better than the foam/rubber backed OEM Sea Ray carpets this replaced. I also had them make a custom piece to go in the transom entry. Rather than installing new snap posts in that spot, I decided to give the new SNADS a try. These are the adhesive, nearly flush white snap posts. Please feel free to PM me with any questions. They truly make the boat look new again.

The teak sump was made by Rich @ Goodale Marine. I think it really adds something to the cockpit. I plan to get the cabin insert as well very soon. www.goodalemarine.com

Very nice!! I can't wait to get my teak for that area, the cabin and the shower! Should be this week. I had him make me a stool that will fit in the head and at the foot of the V-berth. I will probably order the carpet now that I have seen it! Thanks for posting.

Looks great -- my carpet isn't bad but that makes me want to upgrade.

Thanks Guys! Donnie, you will love those inserts!

On another note, here is a better pic of my helm arrangement. I will be installing a MercMonitor in the blank spot to the right of the VHF. The panel was made by Scott at Vector.

Also, I spent this weekend replacing the carpet on the facing of the steps and the piece on the landing in front of the AC/DC Panel. The idiots that detailed my boat when the dealer took it in on trade used BLEACH to get a couple spots out of the carpet and ruined those pieces. It has been eating at me since day one.

This project was a chore! Took 45 minutes to take it all apart, 2 hours to cut, restaple, and glue the carpet for the stairs and another 5 hours to lay the floor carpet and reinstall the steps. I am a perfectionist when it comes to this kind of thing so it takes forever and I took the opportunity for a spotless cleaning of the shower sump while I had it all ripped apart.

A special thanks to Sea Ray for NOT gluing down the piece of floor carpet. If it had been, I think I would still be working on it because that piece goes under the Wood Cabinet assembly and the Aft cabin entry. Finding the carpet was no easy (or cheap) task either.

Thanks, I will give it a try.

Hey Jason, I love the teak insert on the step down on your boat!! If you don't mind how reasonable is that guys prices, and are you going to remove your carpet in cabin or just install it on top? Thanks, Lance

I think the sump insert was less than $100, don't recall the exact price. He also makes an insert for the head. The cabin insert just sets in on top of the carpet, no tearing out of carpet is required. And you can remove it for oiling and other maintenance if you need to.

Here is a thread with pics of the cabin insert. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/20638-Teak-flooring-upgrade-for-my-280da
