Official 280 Sundancer Thread

We have a 12V breaker panel on the starboard side of the boat just below the helm station. I managed to trip the breaker when doing the same install you are doing.

It was the breaker on the EIM. Thanks for the tip.

My 2005 has two 4.3 engines. Is there another way to flush the engines other than ear muffs. I am getting to old to flush the salt water.

I have a perko flush kit installed on mine with a quick connect. Bing bang done.

I don't know the item number, I think it's just called a perko flush kit. I have 2 transom hookups in the transom locker, one for each engine. Plug the hose in, turn the valve on hookup to open. I do it in the water. The perko valve shuts the feed from the impellars off and feeds fresh water to the engine from the hose.

Has anyone figured out a good solution for a trash can in the cockpit area?

Hi all, new to the site. Bare with me as I figure out how to respond. In response to the the trash can...As my wife has nick named me the velcro king. I have found the best place for our trash can is velcro'd to the side of the port step between the two seats. Works like a champ. Get a large rubber band to keep the bag in place while you are under way tho.

Also, mine came with the standard Clarion stereo head unit with CD player and a 6 disk CD changer. It has the Clarion wired remote on the dash. Can this stereo be hardwired to use a IPOD?

If your stereo has an auxillary setting - not sure in 03' off the back of the stereo you will find an RCA marked aux - Radio Shack $5 buy an RCA to headphone jack adapter, run the cord to the front of the deck and plug and play. If you get really brave buy a long cord and run it up to the helm.

Hello fellow 280 owners: Just bought new '08 280 dancer and am a little overwhelmed after a full afternoon of orientation. Anyway, love the boat, but concerned about a few fit 'n finish issues and the fact that although the canvas fits snug and secure around everything, it stops at the top of the transom door and therefore allows for huge gaps around the door which invites gobs of hungry mosquitos into the cockpit.

Does anyone know if there's a different version of the back canvas panel with a flap that comes down securely over the transom door to keep the bugs out ??

Thanks.

Walmart sells a great personal bug repeller - mostly used for hunters - you'll find it in the sporting goods dept. they run about $20 and work... It has about a 10 ft radius and works off of butane. with the camper canvas up you shuold be bug free.

Hey guys... Got a question. Have any of you had to replace your VHF radio? Mines starting to act a bit screwy (sometime it transmits & sometimes not) and I'm looking into replacing it (Ray 215) If you have, what did you replace it with and what did you have to do to get it to fit the pre-existing hole in the helm? While looking at new VHF's it seems some of the shapes of the radios really have gotten much taller and narrower as far their footprint is concerned. I'm looking for radio recommendations in something that will more or less fit into the existing hole without to much modification, and that gives good performance, and is DSC compatable. Thanks in advance on any sugestions.

I'm having the same problem. Is your mic cord dry rotted? Mine is. I think that's why it keeps cutting out. was thinking about re-dipping the cord in tool handle dip (not sure what it's really called) so I did not have to replace as well. I'll let you know if it works. Have not had much luck trying to find a new mic. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

In this photo you can almost see that the end of the swim platform is about two inches out of the water. You can also see the waterline is about an inch above the bottom of the platform where it attaches to the transom. Does this look normal for two engines, genset and full tanks? Thanks again.

I was told by the dealer before I ever bought my boat that this was very common with the 5.0's because of the weight of the engines. Mine is as yours is low to the water. The only thing I have noticed over the years is more and more stress cracks on the exterior edge of the platform but other than that I understand it is very normal.

I HAVE A 2005 280. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE THE FUSES ARE FOR THE BILGE PUMP & HOW TO GET TO THEM. MY DASH LIGHT IS ON,BUT THAT IS THE ONLY THING WORKING. tHANKS IN ADVANCE.

Ok it's official. I'm hooked. Great info from all of you who have been to this thread. I guess this is what happens when your boat is in the shop having service done. You find sea ray club, spend hours upon hours reading everything you can about your boat. Day and night, night and day and long to be back out on the water.

Did you test to see if you have power at the bilge with the switch on?

Or you can check it with a 12v test light. If it lights up it may be the pump itself.

another question . I have black(looks like mold iN MY BOLGE. i LIVE IN fLORIDA AND USE BLEACH TO CLEAN THE LANI. CANTHIS BE USED IN THE BILGE?

Are you sure it's mold and not oil residue? Do you use a bilge sock? I too live in Florida and can honestly say I have never seen mold in my bilge. Not sure I would use bleach as it could contaminate the water but I suppose that's a direct reflection of how much you use and how you clean it up afterwards...Not sure if this helps?

Bilge sock lays in the bottom of the bilge and soaks up any oils that may be in the bilge. Some marinas will give them to you when you get gas if they are clean marina, otherwise very inexpensive at West Marine/Bass Pro Shop etc.
