Official 280 Sundancer Thread

APOLENTINI call raymarine repair mine went bad. i called them they said to send it to them and they most likely would send me a new one. i got a brand new one. i think with frieght it was $70. had it back in one week. That was 9 months ago. and i think it came with a new cradle.

I just called Raymarine to see about getting a replacement PTT key for my Ray 215 mic (it got knocked off the holder one to many times and broke the little tabs that hold it in). The lady I talked to said it was obsolete but she would look for one and call me back later. Two hours later she called and said she found one and would send it to me at no charge! Now that's what I call service.

I'll NEVER understand why a dealer, seller or even a repo guy would try to sell a boat and not take the time to take decent pictures.... A pet peeve of mine I guess...

As far as this boat, you really can't expect to get valid answers to your question about what we would bid on it. I'd need more details about the boat before entertaining a bid. That said... The drives are shot. $10-$15K right there. I can only image what the engines look like. I'm thinking rebuild time is just around the corner there as well. Another $10-15K. If the engines were not in 100% magnificent condition, I would keep looking.

You're right. Thanks for the feedback.

Has anyone run a cable from the cabin to the cockpit? I am going to set a TV on the cockpit sink cabinet. My satelite receiver is mounted under the TV in the cabin. It has to be split from there. Just wondering how is the best way to get it run.

The hardest part will be getting behind the head. You will likely need to disassemble the Starboard wall in the aft cabin to get from behind the head up to the cockpit. You will have to remove the microwave to get from the TV to fish behind the head. The microwave is easy. I don't know about the other part. I believe KHARRIMAN posted a How To on the aft cabin wall removal but it may have been someone else. It had pictures and all.

With the sub behind the captains chair can you still fit the factory cooler in the compartment below the sink?

Here are the pic's of the factory install.
1.Inside the cabinet
2.Behind the driver seat
3.Amps in the mid-berth(behind the mirrors)
4.6.5's above the sink
5.In the entry walk
6.Next tothe lounger
7.Back by the battery switches
-Special thanks for those who pm'd me on how to get these pic's up.

Yes there is room for the factory cooler under the sink with the sub- it has a small magnet that sits almost flush with the inside surface.
The tear down wasn't me...maybe you're thinking of this thread.?... http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6516&highlight=280+subwoofer+wire
280 SEARAY- he's the demo guy... I think there are pics of the midberth panel removed and as I recall they are held on by some sort of "L" bracket n the lower corners..

Yep, that is the post I was talking about. Thanks for finding it. Hopefully it will help him out running that cable feed.

Boat wouldn't start on the lake. After cruising around on the lake we decided to stop and float a bit and watch the sunset. After the sun went down I tried to start the engines. Here's what happened. They started, sounded rough and wouldn't rev over 500 RPM's and I could smell they were running very rich - then they would die. The strange part is both engines did the same thing. I opened the engine compartment and it was hot. I left the hatch open for a bit - ran the fan. Then the engines started and ran great. Has anyone elese heard of this. Should I be doing something to ensure the engines are getting cooled, like ideling longer before I shut the engines off??

Hmm, I assume your year engines have a computer, I would have a mechanic read the codes.

It seems like a fuel supply (lack of) issue. Maybe: old fuel, fuel filter, clogged injector, vapor lock or maybe a temporary timing issue like a dirty sensor in the EFI system. Just throwing out ideas here.

Good luck,
Rich

That sounds like classic vapor lock. In hot weather it is a good idea to let your engines idle several minutes before turning them off. Mine will cool down 7-8 degrees just by doing that and I have not had vapor lock yet.

TV reception

I hooked up a new LCD TV in my 03 280DA so I could receive the digital TV signal from local TV stations. I've found that reception is not very good at all. I have the stock Gomex antenna on the arch and it has one of those dial TV Signal Amplifiers in the compartment below the microwave. I have the TV Signal Amplifier turning up as high as it will go, it helps a bit - but not enough.

Any suggestions on how to improve TV reception?

Are you sure the TV has a digital tuner?

I also had an issue with my Glomex where the wires in the antenna corroded and broke. If you open up the antenna, you'll see a flat piece of plastic "antenna" and a big glop of silicone in the middle. It's a little involved but if you do a continuity test, you can see if the wires under the blob are intact and connected to the antenna. The wires are soldered and the vibration eventually breaks the solder joints.

Yes, it has a digital tuner as some of the stations it does pick up are only broadcast in digital.

Guess I can pull it apart and check it out. Maybe even hook up some bunny rabbit ears in the process to see if the TV then picks up more stations...

I had replaced my Progress Dynamics 110/12 volt battery charger a couple years ago, and my friend at the marina this weekend has trouble with his,(2006 280). I had my volt/amp meter and checked the 120 volt side of the charger only to find no power. Does anyone know other than the normal switch in the transom locker if there is a fuse/or breaker anywhere else. There were no fuses blown inside the charger. I thought that it was pretty much a direct conection from shore power to the charger. We made sure all breakers in the bilge and cockpit were not tripped also. The 110v appliances work in the boat but there is no 110v to the charger. Does anyone have any ideas???

My 280 is a 2007 and it has a switch to turn it on and off on my main electric paned downstairs and I think that is it. Was the shore power on? ie: microwave working...?

That is what makes this all so odd, everything was working other than the charger. I checked the main panel down in the cabin and all was on. I looked at the wiring diagrams that were in the manual also, I couldnt find where they show you any detail of the incomming 110v from the shore power receptacle. ????

On my 280 - I have to have the switch that says "AC Converter" switched on to power the battery charger.

Had 8 adults on the boat for the first time this weekend. Seems like SR would have put the seating to more equal out the weight. With 8 people you have 7 on the port side and the captain on the starboard side. I was impressed though, the boat jumped right up on plain just like it does with just me and the wife.

That's amazing. My pig of a boat takes forever to get on plane with 5 adults (normal size) even with the trim tabs down. Same engines and drives, no bottom paint and stock props. It will take off once it planes though but seems like eternity for that to happen.
