Official 280 Sundancer Thread

My leaks come from where the walkthrough seals (or does not seal) against the fixed windshield. I have read a post saying this can be fixed, but nothing that I tried prevented the water from entering. Other posts suggest building a dam to channel the water out...which is what I am trying to do.

At least in my case, it is not a matter of old canvas - I have had the issues since buying the boat.

every 280 i've seen has water come in from under the walk through. I put a silicon dam on the gutters to help the water go out the sides. It'll still work it's way down both sides and eventually get the carpet wet. It also looks like during heavy rain, the window will weep a little. My solution, I cut a sham wow thingy and put it on each side to catch the little trickle that gets by the dam while i'm not on the boat.

+1 ..on.. every 280 having this problem, silicone dam AND shamwow water catch system..

Hello everyone. I am new to Club Sea Ray. Just took delivery on a 2006 280DA. I too am experiencing water leakage from the walk through. I noticed gaps on both the hinge side and lock side of the door. Puddles of water showing up under the helm seat. Can't be good. Will gasketing the gaps help slow the water?? Glad I registered....will have lots of questions.

Am I the only owner whose 'gutters' were blocked by the windshield seal? I found the depressions in the fiberglass easily enough once I saw posts about them, but they were totally blocked by the windshield seal. They aren't now  but I have some concerns that I may be causing myself new problems. It was either slit the seals or my wrists after two days of rain.

Do you have a picture of where you put the silicon dam? I tried shaving down a wine cork to block the gap on each side but the silicone and chamois sounds better.

You just build a little dam on the south side of the gutter so it forces most of the water out the side of the boat.

Mine are not blocked by the windshield seal. I still get some runoff into the cockpit that doesn't flow out the depressions. I did replace the bottom seal on the walk through window with a generic one from Lowe's. I cut it just a little bit longer than the original one so that it would fill the gap on each side of the window. Didn't completely stop the leaking but sure did slow it down a lot.

I also made a calk dam right at the aft edge of the little channel that goes under the windshield that is intended to allow water in that channel to drain off the boat. This channel is about ½ way between the walk thru windshield and the throttles along the edge of the windshield.

I only had water coming in on the starboard side. I don’t know why it never came in on the port side but it didn’t.

It looked like the water was coming in on the non-hinged side of the walk thru windshield. I added clear calk there and I think that reduced the amount of water coming in. I added calk to the corner, waited a bit for the surface to get a little hard then closed the windshield to force the calk glob to be custom fit.

Basically I have completely fixed the issue. No water gets past the dam. However it’s not pretty.

I don’t have a picture but I’m not sure I want to post one.

I used clear calk and man, it’s in a difficult to reach area. My dam is as high as the tan dash next to it. To be honest it’s more of a big glob wad then a neat dam that I’m sure Mike has. However it works so I’m leaving it. If anyone says anything about its appearance I’ll blame it on one of the kids and say they did it, LOL!

Thanks for being honest since I was going to try to fix the problem. I think I'll just deal with the water. It is a boat after all and it will get wet. Lately I've been folding back the carpet under the helm before I button her up at the end of the day.

The water coming in around the gaskets is nothing compared to what comes in by the gap around my arch and bimini poles anyway. My cockpit cover is far from water tight.

As long as the water stays out of the cabin and/or electronics I am OK with it for now.

Tonka, I'm surprised about the Arch and Bimini leaks. No such problem on mine for what it is worth.

I think he's referring to the cockpit cover and not the bimini canvas. I leave my camper canvas top up when I put the cockpit cover on. still leaks a little around the poles but not as much.

You are correct, Mike. My camper canvas is fine but this leaks like crazy around the poles and arch.

If you put up your front bimini and back camper top, it'll help a little.

I assume you are attempting to get more life out of the isinglass? I leave the full camper top and isinglass up when we leave. I do have the cockpit cover but don’t use it.

In my case, we have taken ALL of the canvas off. We are bare naked just like the Sea Ray promo image below. I put the camper canvas up one time just to see what it looked like and it has been wrapped up since. I prefer the wind and sun in my face.

Good, Everyone can just put their campers and cockpit covers in a box and mail them to me.

Off topic, looks like they got cheap with the cockpit cover from TonkaBoaters pic. Every cockpit cover I've ever had extended down to cover the windshield. This a new design?
