Henry, off the top of my head... here are the 'issues' that lead may lead you to call me a cynic..

Radome failure - breaker was fine - replaced radome
Radio failure - breaker was fine - replaced head unit
radio amplifier problem - breaker was fine - loose rca connector on unit
television problem - breaker was fine - replaced television
cockpit lights not working - breaker was fine - fixed wiring problem and replaced light
windlass not working reliably - breaker was fine - have to send motor back to IMTRA
electrical outlet in head not working - breaker was fine - had to replace outlet and rewire
vacuum pump not working - breaker was fine - wiring issue at the pump fixed

When a breaker pops on my boat and a simple reset fixes the problem... I will definitely post it on the board and share my joy with everyone..

You remind me of the guy that went to the doctor and said “Doc, it hurts everywhere I touch. I touch my foot and it hurts. I touch my knee and it hurts. I touch my elbow and it hurts. I touch my head and it hurts. “The doctor gave them man an exam then said he has determined the problem. He said “Your fingers broken.”

Just wanted to pass along how easy this was and seems to be in demand. Over the weekend I installed the cable that plugs in your AUX port on the clairon radio. Sounds awesome no need for Sirrus radio now as you can use your iphone Pandora radio or itunes.

Part required
stereo adapter cord from iphone store 27.00

Tools Required

phillips screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver

time from start to finish 10 min.

it appears that MPG is hovering about 1.58 MPG, best speed is nailed at about 30MPH, 19GPH, RPM at 4000, trimed pretty far out, tabs up.

I love my Twin 5.0's...

This weekend I "cruised" around 42 MPH, and got 1.5 MPG! Conditions were near perfect - light breeze, flat water. At 33 MPH, I get close to 1.6. In other words, for an increase of 0.1 MPG (an increase of 5%), I get a 40% increase in speed.

This weekend, I went 130 miles on 87 gallons - 1.5 MPG, and my speed was usually 35 to 45 MPH depending on water conditions.

Also, when there is a storm or other need, I can get home at 49 MPH, burning about 1.2 MPG.

Give my wife 2 summers to find every space and fill it with provisions, build a rack that bolts onto the table rack in the engine compartment for even more storage, use both halfs of the cockpit sink for even more storage and she can take care of those impressive fuel economy numbers for you. Even the little compartment beneath the stereo and every inch under the trash can is utilized. Did you know there is enough room on the shelf under the step and next to the trash can (not below the trash can, I’m talking next to it) for a shaving kit bag and you can fit a bunch of stuff in a shaving kit bag? Even doing this there is still room above the shaving kit to stuff a bunch of plastic grocery bags that will end up being used as trash bags. If you are impressed by that you should see how much she can fit behind the TV.

That being said, she never leaves us hungry, thirsty, cold or wet.

You should rent her out as a side business. She could do wonders in my mess of an office - not to mention my garage!

That is impressive - I have not seen calm waters yet, but what I'm running is 1.2mpg@28MPH

Quick question being a new 280 owner for the last few months. My 2 year old woke up from a her nap and decided to crack a deuce in the head unbeknown to myself or the wife. We have been using it for #1 head calls etc. I am on a lake so dont believe I have a macerator or maybe I do I dont know. People on the lake pump out their gray water when they get gas. Should there be any problem if somebody occasionaly snaps a deuce off in the head from time to time getting it good and clean via pump out? More experienced suggestions appreciated.

just use marine toilet paper and deuce away.

Thats what we are using just wanted to make sure it could be pumped out clean. I also add that sanitizer Marine Max sales.

every month, I just poor some liquid tide in and flush several gallons of water. Let it swish around for a day or two. Then pump out. nice and clean.

Transom Shower Water Pressure

How is the water pressure on your transom shower? Mine is worthless but the MM tech said it's normal on the 280DA. Apparently the pump is on the opposite side and the water has to route through the water heater and then through quite a stretch of hose. This leaves very little pressure by the time it reaches the sprayer.

The transom shower on my 240 SD would spray the entire length of the boat.

.

My water pressure sucks everywhere except cockpit bar. I'm thinking we need a better pump? Or... is there a pressure adjustment on our existing pumps?

I can't say I've tried spraying the length of the boat, but it does send quite a stream of water. It's more than enough to take a shower, wash down the dog or spray junk off of the swim platform. I would look for a kink in the line or something else clogging things up. It's only a short run from the water pump to the transom shower on our 280. Not a whole lot of places for the pressure to drop. Hope you have success finding what is going on and causing your problems.

Yup, agreed. My water pressure is decent throughout. It wouldn't spray the length of the boat, but great for a rinse after a swim. I'm sure you checked...but I had a kink right in the locker when I took delivery of mine two years ago. Pulled the hose out completely...problem solved.

The MM tech looked for clogging but it was clear.

Does yours pass through a water heater? I don't know if all 280's have heated transom showers

No kinks either...though I didn't check this myself.

I happened to be on the boat when the tech stopped by for some warranty work and we chatted for awhile. Seemed like a genuinely knowledgeable guy so I have no reason to doubt him.

I'll give it another look myself tomorrow.

Mine sucks... well maybe not "sucks" but a lot less than everywhere else on the boat.

Is both the hot and cold flow from your transom sprayer weak? Mines pretty good, on my boat the head sinki sprayer is the worst one.
