Official 240 Sundancer Thread

Greetings all, I am new to this site, stumbled across it trying to find out how to take the padded trim off over the curtain to the mid cabin. Anyway I am the extremely proud and happy owner of a 1998 240DA. Love it!! :smt038 Looking forward to many visits to the Club.

I am looking for advice about how to determine what is causing all the corrosion on my outdrive. I am in fresh - to semi brackish water in the CT River. I have an 06 240DA.

What zincs are you using? Without the proper anodes, it could cause severe corrosion. Do you leave your boat in the water? The Bravo III are known to corrode very easily without proper zincs.

I believe since you are in fresh and brackish, you will need to use magnesium zincs.

Welcome Dave
and Geo, do a search on corrosion here and make sure you stay on top of it.

My boat's on it's 3 O/D all purchased byt the Previous owner.

Just purchased a 1999 240 5.0L efi with Alpha drive. Had it out on the Missouri River this weekend and it ran great. I had five adults in it, full tank of gas and full of water and it performed well. Looking forward to discussing the new toy on csr

Hello Everyone, Just purchased a 96 240 DA as a second boat since I had never owned a boat prior to 2006. Was supposed to be out of the shop (repairing survey issues) today for the Memorial Day weekend but .... Oh Well, rather have the repairs done right than quick. New to Sea Ray but I do like what I see. We boat in the Puget Sound so with the fairly extreme tide changes I prefer reliability. Had a bit of a problem with what I thought was prop ventilation but the mechanic thinks it may be the prop slipping. Will try another prop and see. I have been reading the comments for the past few days before joining the club. I find that this really is the place to begin when looking for solutions. Thanks for the help.

Bow Hatch Shade

I plan on sleeping aboard my 02' 240 Dancer a lot this summer, I alway wake up when the sun comes up and thru the bow hatch window.

I need some kind of shade to keep the early morning light out.

In the past I usually just fold up a beach towl and put it over the hatch but Ive lost a few towls awould like something better and usable from thr inside.

The newer models have retractable sun shade-screen combo but I don't think it will fit.

What is everbody else using?

Thanks
John

I have the same boat (2002 240DA) and it came with a hatch cover made with sunbrella fabric. Basically, it is a form fitting cover that is color matched to my camper canvas. I believe it is part of the standard camper canvas package that came with your boat from the factory.

Looking at a 2006 240 with 5.0. How is the power and fuel consumption in this boat. Is it underpowered? The boat has low hours and is very clean. What is the market value?

I have a 07 240 with the 5.0. The power is is just fine if you do not need to go over 40mph or pull skiers. In regards to fuel consumption, I just don't even bother to worry. It is just part of the game. If you are going to play ball you have to get out the check book. The gas is the cheapest aspect of it. I would say value depending on options and trailer is 35-45k. Good luck

Re: Bow Hatch Shade

Hello fellas, I'm new to CSR. I have a 2002 240. Love the boat. Did all of them come with air/heat combo and vacu-flush head like mine?? Was the camper canvas standard too?? Wish it had a bigger motor.

Like all of the previous posts, everything is a trade off. I have an 2007 240 SD with the 5.0 mecruiser with heat and air and a genset. It is the perfect setup for me, but others may have preferred the waste storage tank instead of the genset. My setup with the camper canvas is perfect for me. The most important thing you need to do with your boat is enjoy it!!

Ooo...ouch! How can you say that with a straight face! These boats "listed" for near $90,000.00 dollars new, and sold in the $60,000.00 range. Man, I'll never be able to get rid of my boat. Crap! I'm still smiling though! Love my Sea Ray! lol.

I payed 45k last year brand new, no AC, no vacuum flush, no trailer. My same boat on Ebay went for 40k last month, another 07 with more options but salt water boat went for 39.5K in March. Trust me I would part with mine for 40k, with the added 3k stereo and TV I installed and buy a bigger boat.

Sorry Hopper but the boat market sucks right now. It is a buyers market if you can get credit. At my dock alone from my slip I can see 10 boats with for sale signs on them.

Yea I know. I accept it. It's just hard to swallow! How is Sea Ray going to get someone to buy a new one though? Doesn't look like "they" have discounted their "sticker" prices any.
I guess you have to go and lowball the hell out of the dealership and see what they come back with. Car sales, boat sales, bunch of houey.

Does anyone know what LED lamps would fit my 99' 240DA for the cockpit area? I'm specifically looking at superbrightleds.com.

Well if you trade your Sea Ray up at the dealers they will eat your boat you will obviously pay but it will be stretched out over 20 or 30 years you will get the boat you want and be out from under your 240 prob looking at a big loss but at least it will be spread out and padded into a new loan on something you want. Up here in MD they are dyeing to make deals and move boats. I even had the Island Packet dealer offer me 42K for my boat and trailer of course I was looking at the 42' 450K new sail boat.
The dealers will share the pain a lil bit and of course still make $ but they are sitting on boats so if you go new you maybe can split the difference at least the Sea Ray holds value better than many others even if its not what you think it should be unless you get the best deal in the world and put a huge amount down and have every options a new boat will loose a huge amount of money as soon as you sign the contract and in minutes you’ll be upside down. It’s the nature of the beast.

Re: Bow Hatch Shade

My freinds wife made us a blue canvess cover that matches the bimini that we use on the bow hatch it has a small line that you tighten it works pretty well although only gets used on the hook or in mariana as I think it would blow off but it looks better than the beach towl with throwable cusions piled on top that we used to use. My wife also made some fancy curtins that match the interior that cover the port holes as well she rigged up some gold heavy gauge wire and rigged them they came out much better than I thought they would when I looked at the pile of stuff she bought-I guess I know how she feels now
