Official 240 Sundancer Thread

thank you! for the great info i think ill do that for now, this is a great sight with great people.
now to try and track down some lightly used cockpit carpets for a 2011 240 da my search continues

Spent yesterday with the new (to me) 240 on a work rack. Was able to run two tank fulls of water through while checking all drains and the sump. Washed the engine compartment and confirmed operation of the bilge pump. I was on shore power and checked everything electrical. Everything works with the exception of the hot water heater. I will check the fuse next, etc. Wrestled with the canvas - that might be an issue as I am dry stacking it and the canvas has to come down when stacked - so I think I will get pretty good at it, until things warm up. Lots yet to do - wash, buff and wax, name decal and stickers, and then a full shakedown in the water. There is a restaurant right at the marina and it is funny how many people want to stop by and chat with you while you are working on a boat . . . It's time to take a picture or two but too busy!

People love boats, and talking about them........hence this web site. After you knock out your chore list, you'll welcome showing off your boat to the many folks that express interest in it.
My boat in particular gets alot of interest because I have some options installed that are not offered by Sea Ray. Namely the swim platform. I always get asked about it. Specially the rail that goes around the side. Then they notice the windlass, and wonder how they can have one put on their boat. I enjoy the attention.

Good luck with your new to you boat, and don't let the "itis" bug hit you to quick! haha

It's good for me - I am an introvert and a bit of a task master. But I am at a point in life where I am learning to slow down a bit and relax and just enjoy the moment. It's actually a nice way to engage in a chat with someone and so far no one has been a bother at all. Although I am sure that person will show up eventually and announce what I am doing wrong. :smt001

Has anyone replaced their sealand vacuflush duck bills yet? I seem to be having a hard time finding them. The part number on the cover shows part number 385311208 and I need 2 packs.

Have they been superceeded? What say ya'll.

The vacuum pump is a "J" and the motor is a "S".

I'll answer my own question! haha

After some more research, I found Enviromental Marine Services Inc. out of Ft Lauderdale, Fla.
They have two part numbers for duck bills. 385311208# is for 2 duck bills in a pack.
385311581# is for 4 duck bills in a pack.
Not sure but it looks like the "S" motor is obsolete. It is replaced with a "W" motor (whisper). Confusing.

Good luck to me on the change out. haha

Maiden voyage! It was a busy weekend. We completed delivery of our 240 and christened it "Stray Boatage" (long story). We enjoyed a cruise up the Milwaukee River on Saturday and made it out past the break wall in Lake Michigan today. Everything is going great except for finding the lowest step in the cabin with some water in it today. Not sure why that happened but I have a few theories.

Happy to hear your enjoying your boat.

As far as that water in the step, somewhere in this thread it is covered to death. There are a couple of combinations. My solution was to install the shower sump from the 260da! No more water issues for me. My sump would overflow because the float switch wouldn't turn on the pump, as the sump wasn't deep enough.

Good luck.

That makes sense. I am going to check the ealier posts. On Saturday I ran the bathroom faucet and used the sump a lot as I flushed the water system. The sump worked fine. But water staying behind in the sump and then later finding a way into the boat makes sense to me. Yesterday after discovering the wet step, I ran more water through there to make sure the sump was working. I finisged and the pump stopped as well. But, when the forklift lifted the boat, I saw a big gush of water come from that side. The only explanation I could think of was that there was still water in the sump and associated piping and swinging the boat caused it to slush out or triggered the pump. Therefore the sump probably does not pump the area dry, and must find another way out eventually while the boat is being dry stacked.

The sump pump does leave some water in the sump after pumping. However, my problem was the float switch didn't turn on the pump "everytime". This allowed the sump to overflow "sometimes", meaning sometimes it pumped, sometimes it didn't. When it didn't pump (it only took a bump, to jar the switch and it would then pump) the sump box would overflow the box from an overflow port. It's hard to see but it's there. It looks like a plastic extrusion on the side of the box, that a hose would hook to. Unless you watched it overflow, you wouldn't notice it.

When the sump box overflowed, it dumped the water into the forward bilge. When the forward bilge gets full, it overflows to the carpeted standing area in front of the fridge. The carpet also needs to be cut back inside the sump area so it doesn't "hang" into the forward bilge.

If you turn on the water in the head, watch the sump work....or not....or overflow. If it starts to overflow, knock on the lid of the sump box to see if the pump kicks on. If it does, you have found your problem. If it works correctly..........nevermind my advise, you have some nuther problem! haha

OH!!! huge tip. The A/C drain pan overflows to the sump box. When it is very humid outside, the a/c makes enough water to fill the sump box! When you are sleeping in the forward bunk, the boat trims forward and it fills the sump "very slowly" meaning the float switch doesn't get a "bump" to activate it. Thus overflowing the sump box!

Now if you sleep in the mid cabin, with the a/c on. The boat trims to the stern, and the a/c pan might, could, does overflow! You get water under the mattress. The a/c pan sides are not tall enough when aft trim is happening to flow water "up hill" to the drain, which is on the forward side of the pan!!! I had to shim my pan just right to balance the draining for trim conditions!

Ask me how I figured out all this stuff!! I use my boat to overnight alot.

Good luck!

Super helpful! We do not have an air conditioner and because we are not likely to overnight, etc., use of the faucet in the head will be limited. I will keep an eye on this issue and see what developes.

Oh, no a/c.....ok.....well that's not your problem then!
I probably got carried away, I tend to do that. haha

I'm so ready to go boating. This weekend I hope! Maybe we'll get some better weekend weather! I say that because it's been raining here on the weekends, and beautiful during the week! Maybe we need to have "weekend savings time". Adjust the week by two days, to adjust the weather pattern for nicer weekends! Yea, that's it.

There I go again..........

Mike...You? Long winded? Never. I hope the weather does break for you. I may have bum a few rides with you. Mine is on brokerage at Sea Ray. New job position does not allow time to use. It sucks but the $$$ is nice. Someday when I straighten out the department I'll have time for another boat.

Oooooo, bad news Steve, I hate to hear that. You'll be back. Of course, if your in the area your welcome for a ride.

Maiden fishing trip - the 240 is a great fishing platform. We trolled in Milwaukee's harbor in 25 mph winds and a 3' - 4' chop in places. The boat handled it so well - especially for someone like me used to small boats. I can get a very slow troll no problem - all in all a delightful experience. Had the harbor to ourselves - a rare 80 degree day in April.
