Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

Would normally go to the maintenance forum for this type of thing but it’s a bit specific to “older” 290 Sundancers.
my two bilge pumps both fitted to original SureBail float switches. (Photo shows arrangements after cleaning) the aft/lower pump works when switched on at the dash. I flooded the bilge (we r still out of the water!) but neither pump activated on the float switches. I’ve removed the float switches, they are free n clear but no pump activation when flipped. I’ve now disconnected the pumps and switches then reconnected to check if these had fails, still no action but the rear/main pump still ok from the switch.
From other threads I’m aware that there may be an inline fuse or two but I have no idea where they are and the wiring is well hidden. Electricians are as rare as Rocking Horse Shht around here so any help on here appreciated as to location of fuses or next steps. (I don’t have a multimeter n not sure I’d know how to use one if I had :)
Thanks in advance once again!

Hey crew, we spent last night on the boat and enjoyed our NC weather. I have a couple of questions for everyone. We have (what I call “sugar ants”) roaming the boat, not a single file like they have found something but just one here one there. Not sure if they came up from FL with the boat. Anyone else have or had them and what treatment did you use? Also installed new speakers and arch lights, I like the blue in the arch lights and the speakers have blue led’s as well, the arch lights are a bit bright but they were super cheap, $20 for four. So question 2, I need to get 12v power to the lower speakers for the led’s, anyone done this? My cockpit lights are non operational, I pulled the one from the helm and it’s not hooked up , have not pulled the one under the aft bench yet but probably the same. I would like the speaker lights to come on with the cockpit lights. Finally question 3, the two switches on the port side as soon as you go in the cabin, one does the flooring lights, works! The other does nothing, I’m thinking it’s for the forward berth lights. They work from their individual switches. No canvas or graphics yet but the canvas guy was on the dock today and promised me next week , graphics guy is MIA but I haven’t given him any money yet so no worries.

Sorry for the long winded post, any and all replies are always welcome.

Thanks!

Hey Pilot, I can’t speak to the fuses but if the one pump works with the switch then it’s getting power/fuse not popped. Get yourself a cheap meter, Amazon has them for as little as $8 US, Myself or someone else here can help you learn how to use it. Super easy and it will pay for itself in 5 minutes trouble shooting your pumps. Cheers!

Girly girl,
1) i had a couple big black ants that must of got on mine while at home. I just went to HD and got raid ant traps. Put in a couple spots and gone.
2) you can just snale a wire to the arch light or to 1 under bench or by helm.
3) those 2 light switched got me too at first. 1, is to the floor lights outside. Just remember if you put on lights at helm and they dont work check that switch, it could be off. Chased that for a hour till i checked the switch. Consider it a 3 way switch, so you dont have to go to helm to turn lights off to go to bed. Other switch is to rope lighting by floor in cabin. Look by the flooring you will see it

Also love the tv. Same i did in mine, i dont get wifi and my dock so i have a dvd player and a apple tv to stream

Thanks Jeff, we put 4 ant traps out, they (the ants) aren’t horrible just annoying so we are going to double up on the traps and see where we get. Thanks for the switch insight never even would have guessed to think it was for the cockpit lights. I was able to fish wire down from the arch lights to power the upper speaker LED’s, figure I’ll investigate the lower ones if I can find where the one (cockpit light) under the aft bench wires come from/go to

Thanks!

Next good upgrade. I swapped out the lights on the guages to blue. Easy to do and looks great. I also added a third light in arch. Just a hole in plate cover and add new light. Added a second light under bench. 4 underwater lights.

Nice, I was wondering about the aft light just above the swim platform is it switched with the cockpit lights as well? Want to get what I have working before drilling more holes! Love the under water lights, must be very cool when on the hook. What did you use for bulbs on the dash? Checked mine for the first time last night, trim gages and fuel gage are out.

Swim platform light is to the navigation lights. Here is what ya need. Just get 2 cause 1 pack is not enough e bay

Yeah, here in dirty jersey we have no see ems. They are bad if there is no breeze at the dock. Solved that with a fan mounted just behind dock. Life saver on these little f@#*rs.

Off topic I know but same here at the pool, I abuse these fans. They were cheap and have made it through many a thunder storm you have to zoom in.

Has anyone put an ice maker under the cockpit sink? With power and water seems like a no brainer if there’s one that will fit.

I have a small one i just put on the counter. Makes ice in 8 minutes. Never thought of that spot but very interesting
