Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

I did the same thing on mine last year when my second Cal pump failed. I installed an over sized March pump with great results. BTW my personal opinion is that Cal pumps are junk, they overheat and fail in a couple of seasons. That's why I switched to March.

The March pump seem to be pretty good.
In August of 2013 my 250 GPH March pump crapped out in my 87 Sundancer. Turns out it was original to the boat. Can't beat 27 years.
I made a few calls when looking for a replacement, and wound up going with another 250 GPH March. Can't argue with success.

I am doing a new install. Are you using the pump with the red housing? I also see a black housing pump also. Both are marine however the red cased pump is submersible. I don't see where my install would be submersible.

Mine is red. It was the only thing the local West Marine had in stock and I needed AC that day. Worked very well all last season. It is water cooled, so I hope I got enough pink thru it for winter. We'll know in a few months.

Last week I took my furry bottom boat out for a cruise up the Pagan River with 9 good buddies on board. Figured some Feb weather would blow her off pretty quick. Best speed I could get was about 14 mph. Last Sunday weather was around 60 degrees so 4 of us took her up to the Warwick River to check out deep creek and the best I could do was about 16. Both times I ran her up to around 3200 rpm's. I'm thinking I need to tune, scrap and paint. But even so don't this seem slow. Anybody got any ideas on how to get the old girl to go faster?

Haul her out and check the growth. Sounds like the props might be loaded up with growth also.

The replacement I installed is red. The original was white, and had a "Cruiseair" label on it. I did some research, and found that although it was labeled "Cruiseair", March actually made the pumps for them, and Cruiseair put their name on it.
If you have the time, shop around online. I can't remember what I paid, or who I ordered it from, but it was much cheaper than what WM wanted, and I had it in two days.

So, I am about to replace all the cockpit upholstery (mosty concerned with the panels for now) on the old girls(s). The old stuff I took off, was simply vinyl and batting (correct term?) Not sure if it as factory or not. Shouldn't that be 1 or .5" foam?
Thanks

i agree. Haul her out and clean her up! At 3200 I'm pushing 27 to 29. You can do the tune up now while you and I are snowed in. If they can't get you out up that way call Jeff at Hampton Marnie and have her pulled up at Jamestown. I will be happy to help in any way I can

The stock foam on mine was very thin and attached to the vinyl. When I re did mine, I used thin foam, about 1/2 inch. Don't go too thick or it will make fitting everything back together impossible. I bought the foam at a fabric store and used 3M spry adhesive to attach it to the new plywood panels I made from the old templates. I got the vinyl there too and put it on using a power staple gun and Monel staples. I had a local upholstery shop sew up a bunch of piping that I used to trim out the finished panels.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the upper seat cushion on the left side? It needs some repair!!

some lift upwards, some are screwed on behind the buttons like mine was.

My marina... :(

My props are 16x17 I believe on mine.

Thankfully our marina isn't frozen....but we did get word some of the boats were straining on their ropes where docks are floating lower in the water thanks to heavy snow and ice on roofs. First Mate made a beeline out after work yesterday and all was well for us. If we can survive tomorrow's snow/sleet/freezing rain, Saturday's "real" rain should help melt a bunch of the accumulation.
