Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Skip it... My great season with no issues just ended. I'm not a happy boater!

its gonna be a long cold weekend figuring this one out!

Oil in the blidge water....a good bit of it. Ran the girl out on Sunday, no issues....non! All three engines are fine on oil right at the mark, they were Sunday and they are now. No water in the oil, just in the bilge water.

a great deal of water in the forward bilge up to the bottom of the battery boxes, the pump never came on. Float came loose from the hull. Under the Starboard engine was full of water... Sucked everything out and shut the seacocks for the night....just gotta find what might be leaking this weekend.

suggestions please twin 350's FWC system

That or the oil cooler

what would Trans fluid look like mixed with water? This was a thick oily sludge, smelled and looked like oil

Hope it's an easy repair.

Dockmate with the same boat we have had a lot of oil in the bilge. Turned out to be a bad rubber seal on the dipstick for the trans.

Sorry to hear, hope everything turns out OK.

It will be the first thing I check.

my dock mate is thinking a leaking raw water hose or pump, flushed the oil from under the engine. It is an old 88

Trans cooler?

H2O, where is the cooling unit located? I've looked at the system scamatic a few times now and can find a general location.

Ya know what, I'm not even sure we have a trans cooler. I'll have to poke around this weekend. I know... Not helping you now.

If all of your oil levels were ok, I would check the oil in the transmissions also.

Mark I missed with it some today. The Trans had no fluid in it! Starboard engines cooler runs on the inboard side, center line of the boat. I've cleaned everything up and will be getting some pads to place under the engine, refilling the Trans then starting it up to hunt for leaks...

I will do my best to keep you informed

Yikes! The other trans was ok?

Now, where did the water come from?

I am totally confused now. I've cleaned everything up after the water oil issue. Got everything good and dry. Started the old girl up and let her get good and warm. The only thing I found was a leaking heat exchanger cap but the system was still good and full. Tomorrow she will get her winter oil change and a new thermostats and coolent.

transmission was just low on ATF, nothing was found to be leaking at any point in that system.

Today my shop guy suggested this, fresh water system leaked the water into the forward bilge area washing out the old oil under the motor.

Im im open to any other ideas here.....

The next time someone goes for a cruise, especially with the Weekender. Can you please take a pic of your port and stbd engine temp gauges while running on plane? I want to see how they compare to mine.

Thanks!!

Mark. Port side 145 at ideal 150/160 on plane
star 145- 160/70 on plane

port has new manifolds and raisers
both have new impellers
twin 350's FWC, full of fuel 150gal, 1/2 tank of water, empty waste tank. Plus the GenSet. Also I have a hardtop and frame. Just for weight comparision

Thanks! Mine run at 145 at idle and up to 2000 rpm. After that they both will rise to the dot that is between the 145 and the 220. At WOT, the port will rise and settle in between the dot and 220, stbd stays at the dot between 145 and 220. Been like that for 2 years now. Do you feel there is a concern?

I have this in the Classified area as well with a WTB but thought I'd post here as well for any feed back and emotional support.

Have the boat out for a bottom job and got a call that the port strut and shaft were bent. They were pulled for inspection. The shaft,"
It is in real bad shape and needs to be replaced" and "your strut has electrolysis and is very dangerous and needs to be replaced".

I have a quote from the boat yard, for t
he shaft and coupling $560.00 and a manufactured new strut in stainless steel for $790.00.

It's worth keep an eye on it, but it may be like mine. I have two different thermostats for some reason. It's on my list of winter replace projects.

how old are the manifolds and impellers
