Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

I have a 300 weekender with velvet drives Question is how high of idle can you go into gear and if at 1500 or so what problems can it cause. Had a oh **** moment when I saw log in water with out thinking I grabbed gears instead of throttles then thru it back in to gear worked fine after that docking

Thanks

I've probably asked this before, but cannot remember the answer.
For any of you 87-88-89 300 DA owners out there Is there a shower/AC sump under the cabin floor? I'm thinking maybe the PO carpeted over it?
I realize the one in the aft compartment, where the AC pump is, but......

My pump is under the steps coming down into the cabin

Well, to follow up on the last post, I did my do-diligence and found in the owners manuals (available on line) it says, the shower sump is located under the center cushion in the aft berth compartment. I think that may be the same as the 3rd (forward) bilge pump. I'll let you know!

Jim the 89 book I have shows that both the WE and DA's pump are in the same place.
Centerline near the AC pump and strainer.

I actually have both, ( yeah, I know) have both, an 88 weekender,
And an 88 Sundancer.
The Weekender is deff under the cabin entry steps.
sundancer is laid out completely different.
i will have an answer with pics later today.

My 87 Sundancer has it under a trap door in the cabin floor just forward of the aft berth. If you look at the drain in the shower, the space where the sump is located is pretty much in line with it outside the head.

Do you have to pull the carpet up to get to it? I've been looking at a lot of pics of other peeps boats and I cannot see an access panel.
which one of the switches In the head controls the shower pump? Any, or is it only by float switch and "forward bilge" on the dash?

Good morning everyone. I have a 1988 Sundancer 300. Looking to replace the rubber molding that goes along the inside and outside of the windshield. I tried to find info in other posts but do not see it. Does anyone have a source for the molding?

Speakerdude, I think there was a change in the 300DA somewhere in the 88 tiime frame. The 88-89 don't have a floor compartment for the shower pump. Instead, the shower water is routed into the sump under the aft berth where the sea strainer and AC pump are located. The switch in the head that says 'shower' is supposed to turn on the forward bilge pump as an over ride of the float or dash switch. Someone cut the wires off my switch and I only recently figured out what had been done. I reconnected the wires to the pump and supplied power to the switch in the head and it works as it should. The only problem I can see with this set is that if someone forgets to turn off that switch or it get turned on accidentally, the pump could burn up or run the batteries down.

Who has a key operated macerator switch located in head? Mine is actually an ignition switch, and the key was lost somewhere before I got the boat. I recently replaced it with a new switch so I can test the pump. Rather a moot point as I don't plan to do overboard discharge and I can pump out in my slip, but I wanted it operational just in case.

Milledon, the rubber would come from Taylor Made in NY. Thats where I got mine. I think they quit selling dirctly to customers, so you may have to go thru a local dealer to get any but it is available, but not cheap.

You could try to call them, just don't tell them its for a Sea Ray and you may be able to buy from them direct. It should be listed in their catalog online.

Thank you.

Next question. I saw photos showing that someone had replaced the carpet in the cabinet with faux wood fooling. Again I read about 50 pages of posts looking for them. Can't seem to locate. Can someone point me to those posts?

There is a toggle switch on the side of the vanity in my 87 300 Sundancer that manually controls the pump for the shower sump. There is also a float switch in the sump with the pump.

I have one. turn the key to what seems like a start type position and the macerator comes on. Release the key, and the macerator shuts off.
Mine doesn't pump anything overboard though, so something is wrong. I never bothered with it because I have good access to pump out stations. It would be kind of nice to pump out the holding tank when I am in the ocean though, so one of these days I'll probably take a closer look and see what I can figure out.

My guess is the Sea Ray saw a way to use a little more drain hose from the head and eliminate the need for the 4th pump and float switch. It probably saved them 10 or 12 bucks a boat back then.

I have a valve under the rear hatch back by the transom for the macerator to pump over. I don't know if it was added or is OEM.

Spectrum Gel Paste color kit. What color have you all found that Sea Ray calls these 87-89 300 DA White(ish) hulls?
I ordered and installed the Sea Ray Oyster gel paste kit. (according to Spectrums website, this should have been the correct color) Kit works wonderfully, but the color is Gray! Not even close.

You may be able to get the name of your color from Sea Ray. Give them a call with your hull number and they can probably bring it up for you. I got mine from them a few years back.

I've ordered Arctic White and it was an exact match when I rebuilt my swim platform. I called them with the HIN and year and they told me the color.
