Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Also this part number has come up as a replacement 2920-00-354-3159

I found the part using that number late last night. Did you check the coil and find it to be bad cuz that thing is very pricy for what it is.

I tried today to get the flywheel off, won't budge. I think I'm going to remove the entire unit and work on it out of the boat. For now I have to move forward with cleaning and regular maintenance. Not fun being twisted and bent in all directions trying to figure this out...

I completely understand that! I swear just checking battery connections are a good reason to go to my back doc

I just bought a flush attachment for running the motors on land. It's the one that looks like a plunger. Is there any harm in turning the water on before starting the motor? I don't want to hydro lock the motor. I rebuild the sea strainers and want to make sure there are no leaks prior to launch.

I'm sorry, I misundstood. Yes the packing is 1/4 for both. They just did mine last month

Hey, guys and gals with 300 da (Sundancers), when you do maintenance on your teak on the exterior of the boat, do you remove it or refinish in place?
What has works best for the longest? Oil, varnish, etc?

Hey Tritone! Great job on your dash redo! (Your inbox is full.) I was going to ask you if you reused your old chrome trim pieces or did you find new?

Hey! Don't exclude us WE owners! LOL

I am in the middle of this right now. Everything was coated in a varnish that is flaking off. Or weathered to the grey color that teak gets. I am going to try doing everything in place. Using blue painters tape around all the trim and the 3M sanding sponges. Then cost with a natural color varnish. Last year I had to oil a few pieces that were really bad. It had to be done every few weeks to keep the nice golden color. That cuts into beer time.........

Terrific, thanks. Can you tell me about how to do the rudders? It's a different set up than the drive shafts.
JCOD

I had someone else do it but will see them them this weekend.

I too will be doing the teak on the exterior. I also would like some suggestions on what to use.

I'm doing a great deal of teak now, 28 chairs and 7 tables. I'm using Sikkens Marine on all the chairs and another members method on the tables. Cleaning and oiling teak is fun to me, as a teen I did gun stocks in my dads gun shop. Now as a classic owner I work to keep me teak clean and oiled. Everything you want the teak to look like is in the prep work and I mean everything! On my boat I use tung oil with no clear coat, I want a warm deep look. I take one day every other month, in the mornings re oil the wood. Big thing to remember, I'm in a nice covered slip the sun doesn't bake on my teak all that much. If you do your teak in place the blue tape works pretty well, just make sure to tape off a large working area. I do this to sections that are hard to remove. Other larger pieces I bring home, let them sit overnight, then start cleaning and sanding.

These are the tables after 4 rubbings of oil

Thanks. Sorry about the full box. I'll tend to it when I can get back to a real computer rather than a phone.
Regarding the dash parts, I reused everything I could.

For the teak, I took it all off and redid it. The PO did a sloppy varnish job ans it was peeling. I also flush mounted the stern teak piece after cutting down the thickness to one half. I found replacement teak bungs from a guy on eBay. I have plenty extra if you can't find them.

Oh yeah! I see the lower teak now! Great Idea. Hard to clean under there. Why did you cut it down? To match the side pieces?
Thanks..

Yes, exactly. Then I used the other half to trim the deck bench bases. The original aft deck seat-box was rotted completely, so I took it out and used the left over teak.

I need to replace the center hatch on the top front of my 1988 300 Sundancer. Does anyone have a recommendation on a particular hatch? Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks.
