Folks,

I've got a 1993 27' SeaRay Weekender that needs new canvas.

I want OEM canvas, and I know that Great Lakes Boat Tops can provide OEM canvas for some, but not all, of the needed canvas sections. Specifically Great Lakes Boat Tops can provide the convertible top section, (2) side panel sections, and the aft panel section. But they cannot provide the OEM front ("windshield") section.

I suspect another company was Sea Ray's source for the front ("windshield") section.

Does anyone know where I can get the OEM front ("windshield") section?

Thanks,

Bob St John

You really need to have a local vendor do canvas work. Buying OEM means the zippers and snaps will not line up. Big hassle. Use OEM canvas with a local vendor and you will be happier.

Folks,

An update on my question ...

I believe I misunderstood the layout of what I refer to above as the "convertible top section".

I now think that the convertible top section actually attaches to the top of the windshield. And, if that's correct, Great Lakes Boat Tops does supply all that I need.

Can anyone confirm that a "convertible top section" does attach (via snaps) to the top of the windshield?

Thanks,

Bob St John

yes

If you can, go with the GLBT set, it will be a great fit and all the zippers will match up.

@KevinC is on here, a supplier for them and all-around knowledge bank for all things canvas.

Normally you can get a loaner tool to do the snaps but I recommend buying it outright so you have it forever and can fix the snap that needs it here or there, not just to put the snaps on the new canvas.

Same boat here, and yes the brow does attach to the windshield via snaps. My boat is in storage, but I have the factory canvas with the GLBT tags on them at home, I can see what they called it on the tag. At least I'm pretty sure that piece has the tag on it, I know all of the camper canvas and the top itself does.

The slanted front portion of canvas that snaps to windshield is called a Navy top.

Back in the day, many of the boats did not have a true "bimini" where you could stand up underneath it. So, yes, the kind that attaches directly to the windshield, with no clear vinyl, would have been correct. And, yes, in Sea Ray terms, they often referred to this as a convertible top.

Ideally, changing out to a true bimini setup would be the best - but that also involves new frames.

As mentioned, either get it done locally or reach out to KevinC. He'll get you squared away.

Thanks @Phil S & @Lazy Daze !

@Bob St John: Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss. GLBT does go back to 1993 with most patterns and pieces that were originally supplied to Sea Ray when the boat was new. If you are looking for anything different they will not be able to help. From what you are describing it looks like that was the way Sea Ray Provide the canvas for the boat originally.
