odd question (1 handed operation)

Well got a call this morning and offer was accepted. Supposed to do the transfer later this week. I am a little sad and hope we are doing the right thing...lol. I'm sure once we get the next one we will be happy we did it. The buyers are getting a good boat!

congrats man, I'll be in the same situation as you and will want to sell our current one before upgrading so ultimately I'll be boatless for a bit. I don't like the sound of that but I'm sure an upgrade will be well worth it

Just my experience. I sold my 88 250 CC with an Alpha I outdrive and got a 270 Dancer (30 feet actual) with a Bravo III outdrive, single drive/motor. The difference in handling is astounding, the B III will almost spin in it's length! When docking, it's just in and out of gear, no throttle. So single handed.
I'm also land locked with no Tow options when breakdowns happen, so I try to maintain best I can. Also miss my 250, she was a great boat. Sold her to a friend.

Went down tonight and pulled it out and got all of our personal belongings out of it. Just hope we aren't boatless too long.

So I just tried this today. I often single hand my 400DB with two good hands. My shifters are to the left of the steering wheel and throttles to the right. I am right handed. I was able to control and dock the boat fairly normally with just my right hand. But I was a klutz with just my left hand. Reaching over the wheel to use the throttles with my left hand didn't go well. My helm is on the starboard side so I couldn't slide any further right to get my left side closer in line with the throttles. If I had just my left arm and hand to use, I personally would look into having the throttle and shifter locations swapped.

lol. i started riding motorcycles when i was 6 and rode till i was about 13. we swapped the throttle to the left side and it worked fine. one day i decided to try riding my buddies bike by putting my left hand on the right side where the throttle was. i made it about 3' before i fell over...lol. never tried that again.

With my 300DA twin I/O, I never used two hands. Each lever in and out of gear as required individually. I disagree that there's not much advantage with twin I/O's. I could spin that boat nearly the same as an inboard. The pivot point was different, but the action was similar.

Good to know. Our boat is supposed to go to the new owner tomorrow so we are starting our search. Problem is I have been sick all week and now sounds like my wife is getting it so this weekend we may be stuck in the house recuperating.

Thinking we are going to try to stay under 30' OAL, maybe 31'. One reason is our slip. It is supposed to be limited to 26' boats but there is a Bayliner 3055 beside us that is 32' OAL and sticks out about 3-4' past ours. Ours is about 28' total so 31' should be ok but I need to talk to the marina owner first. Not an issue next year as he shuffles people around in the off-season as needed but might not be able to boat the rest of this year. Not that I would let that dictate what we buy but I don't want anything too big anyway.

Plan to look at a Four Winns 288, a SR 260DA, and a Wellcraft 2600 Martinique, as well as any others we find. A Rinker 270FV is also on the list but don't have a specific one in mind to look at.

Wife wants something she can lay back on when we are anchored. Either a 'queen seat' or a rear seat that converts to a sunpad. Also, AC, windlass, walkthrough windshield, pump out head, and large swim platform. I don't think I would like the swivel captains seat either. On our boat I sit sideways with my legs stretched out when we are anchored and can't do that with the swivel seat. Radar arch is pretty important too. Just like the looks.

Found that Wellcraft that has a bunch of options but called about it and it doesn't have AC? What?

So have to go sit on a bunch to see if we like the layout then go from there.

I’m really thinking you’d like the 1994 or slightly newer 290DA.

I like the 290 but it doesn't have the walkthrough windshield. We may be able to work around that but haven't seen one around yet.
