1973 Sea Ray 200....
Engines
Ford 460 Engine, with Berkeley Jet Drive
I was told by a local repair shop that the cable I need/steering system I have in my 1973 200 is obsolete. I have been looking online at new setups (hydraulic would be nice, but not in my budget).:smt089

:smt100Is there a such thing as a universal steering system? As long as I order the right length cable, is everything else pretty standard, or are there certain things I need to take into account? The boat has a Berkely Jet drive, and has 360hp. Although I never plan on using all that power, does this play a part in the decision? I have read that some have a 400lb ???? limit, and others have a 700lb??? limit. What does this mean, and how can I figure out what I need? What type of system is better rack, or rotary? We will only be in fresh water, and mainly just tubing and skiing.

I know most people will say, take it to a pro, but unfortunately that is not in my budget. I am very good at figuring things out, and very mechanically inclined, unfortunately I have not been around boats much, and this is all new to me (and I cannot find any owners manual for this model anywhere).

Any help will be greatly appreciated, I am anxious to take my son out on the water for his first time, and this is the only thing stopping us.

What boat is this?

Jet Drive? Sea Ray? Bombardier? A lot more info is needed here....

As I stated above, it has a jet drive. We are on "Club Sea Ray" website, so it is obviously a sea ray (were sea doo/bombardier even around in 1973?) Please read entire posting next time... thanks.

I would call Teleflex,I needed some information in the past, they have great customer service.

Thanks for the advice on reading the whole post next time. I'll do that.

Good luck with your search for info.

Best regards,

Randy.
