Observation Regarding Wood In The Water

Yup, that's my huckleberry. Money aside, this is the driving force behind not wanting to size up. In my 4 months of 18 foot ownership, I have hit quite a few logs and even ran aground twice. The hull is very strong on my little guy. Bottom line is that the parts that I have had to replace have been manageable and not costly. Wrenching in the garage. Should I go with a 26 or 27, I'm afraid I won't get off this easy and it will be a restless night after.

We still get trees and all sorts of junk every time we get a moon tide or strong storms. During normal tide cycles everything get hung up on the islands up near Richmond. A strong full moon and higher than normal tide will flood those islands. About two days later it’s waterlogged and down near Jamestown. The wise Captains will advise you to stay in port and tell stories of after Isabell. There were trees with dead cows mixed in with them. Crabs ate good that year.

I don’t think I’ll ever eat crab again.

The Merrimack can get nasty too.
I had a 15' oak butt log wedged between my boat and the dock. When they finally got it out they found it was almost 3' in diameter.
