Hey Guys,, just a heads up,,I heard one or two fellow boaters talking of NYS looking to collect twice on sales tax of boats.Today Mine came in the mail and they say that they dont see any sales tax paid on the documented boat with USCG for 2011. Maybe if they looked and saw it is a renewal and that the date of purchase was in 2009 and all sales tax was paid but I guess thats to much to expect. The quick fix is a copy of Bill of sale or cancelled check of paid tax..My problem was a big renovation in the house and papers were put in such a good, safe place that I cant find them,,lol Marine Max was nice enough to send me all the copies I needed and said there were many others getting this letter, what a pain in the ass..Im sure the automatic computer generated notice went to the Fed. Tax Audit dept and I will have to send them **** too..Your Tax Dollars at Work

Yeah, got the letter over the winter. They are combing through USCG documentation looking for residents of NYS. They take the stance of guilty until you prove you're innocent. I"m sure i'll get the letter every year. I made the mistake of documenting the boat in New York even though I don't keep it here.
