I hate these sneaky late season storms. Ida sort of reminds me of Wilma that hit us from the South West in late October '05. What can be deceptive is the wind speed. If a Hurricane or Tropical Storm is racing across the face of an early season cold front you can ad the 20~30 MPH of forward motion to the strorm wind and you jump a category very quickly.
Wilma was a strong Cat 1 when it came ashore near Naples but was moving NE along a frontal boundry 30+ MPH. The eye was 75 miles in diameter and my back yard weather station recorded sustained winds at 105 with gust to 126. The wetlands of the Everglades did not slow the storm down any at all and we got clobbered from the South West. I remember a lot of the high rise buildings downtown Ft. Lauderdale had most of their windows blown out.
Be aware and don't get caught un-prepared.
