so I'm running the original binnacle controls on my 4.3/alphas and I'm having an issue that seems to be getting worse and worse of not being able to start my starboard engine. I used to have to occasionally wiggle the control in nuetral to get it to crank. now I have to wiggle the absolute hell and pop it in and out of gear and say a few hail mary's to get it to be able to crank. It's gotten so bad that I'll get it to crank, turn it off and then just try to restart (without touching the controls) and it won't let me, making it necessary to go through the cursing and wiggling ritual all over again.
I had new shift cables installed two seasons ago and never had a problem till the middle of last season. I'm guessing it's the safety switch but maybe it's something in the shift cable? not sure what to check or how to best check it:huh:

Do you know where your NSS is? Do you have Morse S Twin or Single? I can show you were they are if you do. That wiggling to start thing is very much like how they act when they're not working right..

Neutral Safety Switch, Fits Morse SR & Twin SR Controls...

Here are two examples of what they could look like. You could have both examples on the same boat. I do.

well here's what the controls themselves look like, guess I'll have to dig under the dash and figure out what I can see. go figure it's the starboard side, as in the one that's tougher to get to.

You might be able to see under from the back of the dash. Like from in the head or whatever is behind the dash. Mine has an access panel in the head, which is not easy access but better than nothing. What I did was take the shift console off, which you think you'd be able to do on yours too, and get at it that way,(if it even has a NSS in there. You'll have to look up your shift console and see). The cables make it tight to pull out too far, but you can get to it- or I could get to mine. But mine was a different model.
So:Here's where I got the diagram of the NSS in the shift console, for what it's worth to you..

And here's where I got the picture of the one on your engine linkage:

I had a real problem with the wiggling thing. I took one out and temporarily disabled the other, boat started great every time afterwards. I hope you have good luck with it/them.

remove the plastic cover, remove 4 screws/nuts and bolts, remove shift assembly.
