:smt100Hello everyone,

I purchased a brand new fully loaded 240 Sun Dancer (minus the chartplotter). I'm needing some suggestions on a good chartplotter for my boat, keeping under $600.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Welcome aboard. You may want to update your signature with your boating info and location. The Sun Dancers are sweet boats. Just a heads up You have a DA not SD.
SD - Sun Deck
DA - Dancer.

I'll see if we can get Wesley (The Mod) to change the heading for you.

Ooops. I meant Sun Deck. I wanted the Dancer, but I couldn't convince the wife that having a cabin would be fun!

Welcome aboard good to have another 240 Sundeck boater. Like you I was new to boating and got my first boat in Oct 2006 so stick with this site and you will learn more then you can ever imagin!

Morp. You have a pic showing how your wiring was routed or is it battery operated?

I do, don't have them with me but will get them for you in the next couple days you might have to remind me but it's very very simple.

If you look up under your helm where the cooler is you'll see lots of wires in there you will find a nice little power section and ground section that you can just plug into for the power and ground of the unit. Other then that I mounted the antenna right next to the Sirius antenna in front of the windshield so as far as running wires I really had nothing difficult to do but I'll get you some pictures.

Yea. I've looked under there and noticed all the wiring. Very nicely laid out so that will make it easy to find a hot and ground point. As far as the antenna, I believe it's built into the 440. The making of a hole on the console to drop the wire through is the part I don't like.

Would love to see the pics. Thanks!

I'll get you more pictures tonight when I get home. On the drilling the whole it's messy you will need a whole saw and you'll want a shop vac and someone using it as you drill your whole as there will be fiberglass dust going everywhere and it's not fun to clean up.

Ok I uploaded some more pictures.

Here is the specific one on the wiring.

While looking at the picture you see there are 2 open fuse spots. You just stick in the proper fuse for your GPS unit and then just the little blue connectors as you see in the picture for the power.

If you look lower (not really easy to see in the picture) there are also black wires there connected the same way that's your ground spot there are 2 open ground spots as well.

Here is a picture of my wire running through the gromet that came with the GPS unit I just drilled a whole with the hole saw (remember the shop vac). It's pretty thick right there. Some people will say use some non-permant 3M product I just dry fit mine that way if I need to move the cable in and out at all I can with easy, but it's a snug fit and doesn't let water in.

Hope this helps.
