Nothing quite like a Winter Weather Advisory to close out March, ehh fellas?

Man, no offense but Michigan sucks! Last week was beautiful here, and Easter Sunday was sunny and bright (but cool). But it hasn't been real boat weather yet due to the high winds. Averaging in the teens with gusts to the 20's and 30's (and higher some). But I have to remember that while *I* am itching to boat in April, the weather rarely complies. So we commission, but then we spend the month doing cleaning, maintenance and upgrades, waiting for May...

And I was joking about Michigan. I have crossing the Mackinac Bridge on my motorcycle on my bucket list. In summer, of course...

Pool gets opened up next week. Not sure why other than to wish for a warm up. At least it will look better than the cover.

Had a skiff of snow over the weekend (up north at least). Was up at our cottage and popped into the marina. Not a single boat in the water. There were very few people doing work on their boats. I guess the wind/cold was keeping people away. It was about 45 degrees on Friday but dropped to the low 30s on Saturday and Sunday. Almost all the boats are still shrinkwrapped, which is crazy for mid-April. Even the trees are late in budding/leafing out.

Whine whine whine....

I moved out of Michigan 30 years ago vowing to only come back to visit for a few weeks in the summer. Well, I'm back in Michigan....full time. And yes, it sucks 9 out of 12 months a year. I wouldn't do any different though. Tried hauling MIL to Florida for the winter 4 years ago and that was a total failure. She was worried sick about her house being unattended. We had one her daughters stop by weekly to check on it. Didn't matter. Anyway, at this point now that we've been away from Florida for 3 years, I don't think I could move back as a full timer. If I were to move away from Michigan, I'd look at the Lake Murray area in South Carolina. Just a pipe dream, I think. Maybe settle on renting a house or condo in Florida for 4 months a year.
Just sitting around waiting on the snow, rain, sleet or whatever to start. Yippee....

Too old for this old man. I once brought a new to me boat home in the winter, ice and rain. I was not prepared. Used a credit card to scrape the ice off of the windshield while under power.

I'm curious - why couldn't you go back to FL full-time? I took the fam down there for spring break 2 weeks ago. Seems like paradise, minus the traffic and road construction...and hurricanes.

We just came back from our house in Estero Fl for spring, left the 85-90 degrees and sunny everyday because we love spring time… And it is time to get the boat out and ready, except there are snow flurries yesterday and today. Crazy. Should have stayed south. You full timers have it right.

Snow fall started yesterday and projected through tomorrow, up to a foot in some parts of Central New York. Going to need to break out the shovels, I've already "summerized" the snowblower.

same, and the boat goes in this afternoon. forget the snowblower, I might just head east to oswego and start going south to permanetenly fix this problem we have up here:)

I've moved enough and I sold all of my cars when I moved up and I would want to have cars back if I moved back to Florida full time. I wouldn't want to own a boat down there. So a move would require having to downsize. I can't trade homes equally. Sell the boat. Replace that with a street rod and a 60's muscle car. More cash tied up in the cars than the boat. Too old to go through all that again.
At this point, keeping what I have in place and just bailing out of Michigan for the winter would be the easiest. Not ideal but it would keep me from wanting to hang myself.... ;-) I know....whine, whine, whine. Plus my buddy sent this "good morning " pic this morning. Grrrr

I was telling my broker yesterday that I am retiring at the end of the summer, so 5 months from now. Think about that as you look out at late spring snow. Aaaaaargh I hate the north. Why do we live here?

I’m looking out there and shaking my head as the white powder falls. I have a boat arriving tomorrow in Grand Haven, MI that I will need to ferry from the launch to my slip. It’s gonna be cold, but wonderful!
The contractors just removed the scaffolding under the 31 bridge yesterday. It was being painted so there was no way to get a boat up river into Spring Lake or the Grand Isle/Holiday Inn slips from storage marinas west of the bridge. It has been a miserable spring to do outside work on boat this year. Going to be 31 degree the next two days.

Our pool was opened up yesterday. I am heading out at the end of the day to vacuum it. The water is 45 degrees!
Summer is here??????????????????
I did see this though, and I felt less bad. Its not just us up in Canada that are having crappy cold weather.
