When Sea Ray factory installs a Northstar 550 do they also connect Smartcraft? My new 290 Sundeck's does not seem to be connected w/ Smartcraft.

Not sure I really need this but I would imagine connecting GPS Alarm feature to my SR depth gauge would help when fishing in shallow water.

Any info is appreciated.

As far as I know it is not interfaced to the Smartcraft sytem. I interfaced mine myself and would highly because it is so usefull. http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1065&highlight=navman

The actual cable hookup on your boat is a bit different than mine was but your dealer ought to be able to tell you what you need. Everything will be "plug and play".

Careful on the plug and play. Still waiting for my unit to come back from the Northstar folks. See following post.

When I get some results, will post.

Also, good luck with finding the gateway. The gateway and 550 are not nearly as available as they used to be.

I put a reply up on your posting that you might want to read.

Dave

PS.............the Gateways still seem to be available as evidenced by this quick search I did. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=northstar 550 gateway&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf

Just be mindfull about the possible mis-packaging I mentioned in my reply to the above posting.

I had my 550 installed by the dealer, and it is connected.

Dave... Not sure what is happening with the Northstar 550 and associated gateways, but these items used to be readily available, but not so any more. On the very first page of this search, 5 of the 7 listed vendors of the single gateway do not have the product in stock. In fact, when I bought my gateway back in February, I placed the order with with 2 vendors both of which cancelled the order within 25 hours because they could not get the product. The 3rd finally came through.

If you do a quick search for the 550, some vendors out there are stating the 550 is discontinued. But no such indication is made on the Northstar site.

So I don't know what is going on.

Also, according to the 2008 Northstar Catalog (http://www.northstarnav.com/upload/Northstar/Documents/Catalogs/Northstar-2008-Catalog_Web-Ready.pdf) the gateway to be used with the 550 was model NS005020. In the 2009 catalog (http://www.northstarnav.com/en/Downloads/Catalog/) the gateway to be used with 550 is model AA010187.

Thanks for the data re the mislabeling. I will be replying on my other posting re the state I am at with my install that hopefully will uncover this situation if it exists.

I know the 550 was superceded by the 557. I tested a 557 and did not like the display panel. it was difficult to read in bright sunlight. The same Gateway worked on both models.

I have a spare gateway and another brand new 550 but I am not willing to part with them. Initially I was going to install both of them so they could be multifunctional (gauges on one and charts on the other) but never got around to it. The Gateway part number shown on my package is AA005020R.
