Norcold fridges

I've been following this thread but forget if anyone above mentioned Tundra. The PO of my boat replaced the original fridge with a Tundra back in 2004. Do these have any better of a track record?

How hard is it to pull out the DE461 My Norcold DE461 has just taken a dump and I am going to have to do something. I have heard that the Norcold will not fit out through the cockpit cabin door, does anyone have any input about this?

So far it appears that if is not something minor I will have the complete guts changed out.

It was working, but now nothing, unit does not even try to turn on, I do not even get the green LED on the thermostat switch nothing for either 120 VAC and 12 VDC operation.

Thanks

I think there's a rebuild kit out there for them - something like $700. Might have been discussed in this thread but I'm too lazy to go back and read it all.

I know there are screws around the refrigerator door frame, but are there any hidden screws in the top or at the bottom, which might perhaps require the thermostat and panel having to be removed to get to a bottom screw?

Thanks

Ok, a couple of things. I just replace my Norcold or Nevercold with a Vitrifrigo. Reason: I call a repair guy in Baltimore and his first question was: What is the make. His next response was, "no I won't be out replace it with something other than Norcold. Hence the Vitrifrigo.
Now whether you stay with the Nevercold or switch to something else. I had to remove the sliding door, the Cabinet the fridge is in. Once that was done it was a piece of cake. Well a piece of cake after about 5 to 6 hours.
As for the new fridge - we love it. Quiet and very cold. I open the door now and then just to see if the light is on it is so quiet. Very happy with it.
Anyway that is my take...hope that helps.

So is the cabinet a bolted or screwed together assenbly in case I have to go this route. Just how hard is the cabin door slide assemble to deal with regarding removal and replacement?

The slide door isn't too hard but does require a little patients and touch. Don't let the rollers slide down into the door frame. They are kind of a bear to retrieve. As for the cabinet. There are side screws. Mine were inside the steps as you go into the cabin. I think 4 very long screws. Take the trim screws out and then you can pull out the fridge. Disconnect the cables/wires. Pretty much plug and play. Now for the cabinet once the fridge is moved out. There are screws in the floor/sides and maybe back. All need to come out so you can move the cabinet out of the way. Once you have done that take the old one out and bring in the new.

- I did have help with this entire project from a member of our marina who is pretty much up on this stuff. But I think I would have figured it out in time. I think!
Hope that helps.

I replace my Nevercold in my 380 with the Vitrifrigo. I wrote a thread about it here: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...Vitrifrigo-Fridge-01-380?highlight=vitrifrigo

Very happy with the capcity of the Vitrifrigo, and as mentioned, it is super quiet and cold!

Thanks
I am looking into both as options, good to know about the additional two inches. Was the trim on the side facing? And it is a minor point but I do like that these models have a light inside if I end up going the replacement route???

If installing the Vitrifrigo in a 380, you will need some custom trim as the unit is too deep. In the photos on the other link, you can see the black trim that we put around the sides and top of the unit. That trim is a relatively minor job, and the trade off is a larger, colder quieter unit than the Norcold.

+1 on the Vitrifrigo! More than two years now and it's working perfectly!

Just found this thread. Same problem as Aaron had on his previous boat. Mistercomputerman suggested I do the "gut" job, which I just did. You salvage the old capacitor and the thermistor and use all new stuff. Tricky but do-able. Taking pre-op pix of the back from several angles helped avoid a lot of confusion.

My how times have changed. Mine cost me $780 delivered from the same place mentioned above (RVcoolingunit.com). This new unit is uber-quiet and works great. Nice to not have that damn NotCold rumble clicking on every 5 minutes.

+1 Vitrifrigo! Just installed one in my 330 and it's so quiet, has an inside light and fit through the door easily.
