Hi,

My Norcold DE-561 fridge on my 95 440 EB just stop cooling. There is a light on at the bottom but it does not cool.

Any suggestions or what I should replace it with. From what I'm reading Norcold refrigerators are not very reliable.

Thanks,

Fred

Ours went out the second to last weekend out. We went with a Tundra paid about $900.00 supposed to be more quiet and the compressor is supposed to be more robust. Luckily we found a tech who had one on his truck and had it installed two hours after the Norcold went out and the beer was still cold :smt038

Sounds like the compressor to me. I had this occur about 4 years ago and when I went to repair or replace the tech told me to repair as the newer refrigerators are more cheaply built than the older style in my '97. The replacement compressor was around $500 installed if I remember correctly.
Good luck!

Thanks for your responses. I will keep everyone informed.

Hey guys - I hope this might help a few people. I bought a 1995 400 EC last year at this time. The fridge is only a couple of years old. We used it while it was up on the hard and it cooled really well. It ran well on our trip home (300+ miles) but shortly after that it stopped cooling. It cooled a small amount, but nothing like before.

Because the weather was warmer as the season went on, I chalked it up to a poor performing unit. I thought maybe more ventilation was in order, but when I finally pulled it out I found that the cooling fan running air across the heat sink in the back was dead. They use a standard "muffin fan" that runs on 12 Vdc - a unit you can buy at any computer store. I replaced that unit, and then i poked a 1/2" hole in the air conditioning duct which runs behind the fridge to supply more air flow. The result is icy cold beer and a fridge that barely has to work at all. The amazing thing was that prior to my repair, the fridge cooled a little bit! I can't imagine how hard it was working, but when I first pulled it out from the enclosure you could cook an egg on the compressor!
