Has anyone successfully replaced the old de561 Norcold with any refrigerator that fits, and works well. Would like to be able to replace cherrywood front. The Norcold replacement is de0061, but it appears to have some problems. The Novakool 9000 may be the best that fits. Thanks
 
I replaced the cooling unit in mine, and I don't regret it. There are several threads here about fridge replacement. As you've apparently heard, the 61 has a bad reputation even as far as Norcold goes.
 
Ditto. I also have a '98 and replaced the OEM DE561 with a rebuilt one several years ago. The OEM one did not have a fan under the compressor. When the replacement unit went out a few months ago, I looked at everything I could find and decided to replace the entire sealed cooling unit as the inside of the fridge was in good shape and the trim doors would still fit. It's expensive and I've still got a Norcold. . .so I guess it will fail again at some future date.
 
i replaced the electrical "box " and it worked well . Still have a box in my garage if that is what it is . Took about an hour .

I am going through the process of fixing my DE461 on a 2000 41' Dancer. As you know it is too big to remove from the cabin and no new units are any smaller. My only choice was to replace the cooling unit. Parts are on back order from Norcold until late September at best. Has anyone had any success with rebuits units. I plan on installing a small DC fan to help extract hot air from behind the unit once it is rebuilt
 
I just installed the Nova Kool and it works great! Not a major job to get it in, just take the top door hinges off and it goes in easily.
