new guy here i have a 1996 230 ov and i have a few questions. how difficult is it to add a second battery? i would like to have one for acc and the other for starting back up when the partys over. and this is a real dumb question do i/o:'s have two water pumps one on engine and one in foot? im going to change the impeler in the foot this weekend but i thought the water pump was on the engine,looks like a chevy 350 to me.to be honest i had no idea there was an impeller in the foot. and does the engine have a thermostat like a car? and if it does should i replace it. sorry for grammar ans spelling. thanks for any help!

Welcome aboard!

Not hard to add a second battery - there's a number of good threads about this and a switch vs isolator. Try a search.

You have an impeller -- "raw water" or "sea water" pump -- in the lower unit (like an outboard) and a circulating pump on the front of the engine just like a car.

Yes, T-stat is right up top/center/front - right where all of the hoses come together. Do you have the maintenance history? Does it run hot? Otherwise, for the couple bucks it costs, probably a good idea to start fresh.

Grammar? Just start using some capital letters at the beginning of sentences (it's not that hard to press the shift key) and you'll be fine! :smt001
