Non Skid Deck Cleaners\Protectants - do you use them?

I don’t wax no-skid, I don’t like my ass broke on the deck.
You really wax no-skid? Really?

I'd wager 85% of us wax the non-skid? I can't believe anyone can tolerate it without wax. I've missed a few spots over the years and it drives me crazy.

There's
We ran thru some crude oil looking sludgey mud Sunday that covered the swim platform. I cleaned it off with the boat soap I have and it did fine as best I can tell.

I saw this in West Marine yesterday and bought some: http://www.starbrite.com/item/non-skid-deck-cleaner-with-ptef

I got home and thought "is this stuff necessary?".

"The protective polymers provide a barrier against future stains, making clean up a breeze"

Is this a true statement?

Do you use a non skid deck cleaner/protectant?

Thanks
Tons of great products out there. I never wax the nonskid for risk of the first mate falling. Try Bar Keepers Friend (powder type) under $2 works fantastic. It will strip wax, only if you do not keep enough water on it as you use it. I've been using it for 10 years or so.

Not a big fan of the Starbrite non-skid cleaner. Felt like it didn't do much more than regular boat soap.

I do like to use Woody Wax on the non-skid. If you follow the directions on how to apply it, it will go from "slick" to "stiff".

I use it and the StarBrite non skid wax.
Here is another way to approach it.

I have used the Shurhold method and products with good success. With the Woody Wax in the blue spray bottle, I developed black specks in the non-skid over time. Not sure that is what caused it, but I stopped using it and they went away.

Just cleaned all of my non skid with a mix of boat soap, bleach and water and a cheap(low psi) electric pressure washer. Easy removal and now it sparkles!

Okay, now I need to wax my swim platform at a minimum. Besides Woody's, what wax and compound are folks using for this? Do you apply it just like you do to the hull and top sides?

I have some McGuire's flagship on the boat, is that safe to use?
If you're going to compound it you can save some work and get a better job by pressure washing it first. I mix a little soap/water in a spray bottle. I spritz sections ahead of the pressure washer. It gets a lot of the oxidation off before, makes the compounding easier and I think better job.

oops, didn't see Scotyp post but ya' what he said
