Hi Have anyone experienced a screeching noise from a 2001 diesel Westerbeke 7.0BTD generator? It comes and goes, and I do not think it is the engine itself due to I just got the oil sample results back that shows normal engine wear. I have only 330 hours on the generator. Beeing a diesel engine, it is noisy by itself of course, but this sound is almost like a dry bearing sound. No dust or particles around the engine. Any ideas? Thanks Thor

Strange, I had the same problem when I started mine this year, Turned out to be a very loose belt that drives the alt. Bob

It almost has to be the accessory drive belt being loose. Every other cause for a squeal I can think of would cause a fault in the generator's protection devices and shut it down.

Belt....... Tighten that sucker up, or better yet, replace it. When they squeal like that they start to get polished. When they get polished they lose grip.....

Hi guys. Thanks for all your replies, and all of you are pointing to the belt. So I will try to shrink down from 6 foot 1 to about 5 foot and get in there! The 41 Sundancer is tight back there, but I have been there before, and I was surprised I made it back out! Thanks Thor
