Noisy Exhaust

I have a noise coming from the stern from the port outdrive that sounds like a plane and the noise gets louder as the rpm's increase. I also smell exhaust. Could this be the exhaust bellows that needs to be replaced? 1999 Sea Ray 270 Sundancer with twin Mercruises 4.3L with carbs and Alpha Gen II drives.
