Older boat, lots of sewage hoses and components in the bilge. Not ready to tackle the replacement of the front head hose. I thought I'd try Noflex, see if it helps. Obviously will add to the head.

Question, will this also clean up the bilge area? I was going to wash down the bilge this fall and was hoping this might alleviate some of the smell in the bilge which is where most of the odor is coming from. My plan is to soap up the bottom areas and rinse out, then liberally spray the head system components an the areas they have been laying in.

Anybody do this to any effect or waste of time?

if there is raw sewage in the bilge then yes applying Noflex to it will help.....when I first got my boat there was a strong odor from the waste tank area but no evidence of a leak....I made a spray out of Noflex by dissolving some in water....then I sprayed it all around the tank and the hoses...after a few days and a couple applications of the spray the odor was eliminated.....

Thank You CliffA.

I'll give this a shot. Your situation sound exactly like what I have going on.

That stuff is amazing on sewage odors. I use it in my vacuflush system (like many of us do) and when I replaced duckbills in one VG, there was no smell what so ever. I had been dreading the day when I would have to do duckbills because of what I read, and it turned out to be an easy 20 minute job with no odor. I guess its the No-Flex...

It will clean up other stuff as well. I put a tablespoon or so with some water in my bilge sumps and it cleaned them up perfect. No stain, no scrub...removed the water and perfect.

Can someone suggest where to order the Noflex from. I googled it and one product looks like it is a crystal and the other looks like it is a liquid. I think I want the Zaal product. Prices are all over the place too.
Thanks

That's just clean living, Carter...

I just use the convenience of Amazon. Not cheapest but easiest...

The cheapest source I've found is Marine Sanitation & Supply. I usually order 4-5 containers of NoFlex and a bottle of the compatible cleanser to get their volume discount. It gets the cost down to $16.20, free shipping and no tax.

I used it in my Vacuflush systems my first season with the boat and it worked so well that I started putting a teaspoon in the shower drains this season. Both sumps stayed nice and clean all summer. I also changed from bar soap to body wash and constantly kept AC tablets in the pans which I think also helped.
Noflex is not cheap, but it works.
If the smells in the bilge are from the sewage hoses and you dilute Noflex in a spray bottle and keep spraying the crap out of them then I think that it will work well, but if they are from something else like mildew or mold then you may want to use a different product.
The last time I bought it I got it from Fisheries Supply (was ordering other stuff from them at the same time) and took advantage of the 4 or more bulk pricing. I think it was about $16.00 a bottle that way. MarineSan.com gives a bulk discount for it too that winds up being around the same price.

I saw the $32.00 amazon price, and that's just for 16 ozs. I thought I saw a 32 oz bottle on a website but can't find it.

While researching Noflex, I keep coming across Unique Marine Digest-It. Anyone have any opinions on this porduct?

One of my dock mates has a chemist friend that is developing a bio holding tank chemical. This seems to be the way. Have not heard of this one.

In my years of dealing with holding tanks on tha RV and then the boat, I saw the label said "formaldehyde free" and never really questioned it. It was explained to me that formaldehyde works to preserve the sh!t in the tank while they used perfumes to cover it. I like the bio concepts much better.

Yes, I have been using it for 6 months are so and it works great. When we got our boat, I used the Norflex Digestor for 9-10 months. Pulled and cleaned the probes and installed a new filter. Never experienced any odor whatsoever. I figured I had cleaned the system well. Pump outs were 100% liquid with a slight stain.

Changed to the Unique Marine Digest It. It is much easier to use-dump in 8-10oz after pump out and done until the next pump out. We are also using the toilet bowl cleaner made by same as it states it gives a little boost to the good bacteria.

I have been meticulously watching the system for any sign of foul up. Both heads hold vacuum for a week and continue to work flawlessly. I am taking nothing away from the Norflex as it is a great product. This one is just cheaper and easier to use. So far so good...

Good to hear and thanks for the feedback. I agree it appears easier to use. Less of a schedule and 1/2 the price!

I have used both as well.

From what I remember reading they are very similar, but I use for 2 different purposes. I read a review of Marine Digest-It and went to buy it. The local Ace was supposed to have it on the shelf, but only had the RV version. I called the company and they said either would work. The info I have on the Norflex came from this site and the write up on the Marine Sanitation web site. I use together, they seem to compliment each other.

The Digest It is useful bacteria that breakdown waste into much less objectionable compounds. According to the Marine Santation website Norflex Digestor hepls promote aerobic bacteria (which is what the Digest It is) and breaks down compounds that cause odors. I have been spraying Norflex on older sanitation hoses in the bilge hoping to get another year or two.
