We went on a 4 day trip over the Labor Day weekend. I ran the genny from the time we left dock until we reached our destination (roughly 2 hours). It still had good water flow. I shut it down for the weekend. When we went to leave 4 days later I started the genny and no water flow. I figured maybe I picked up some weeds and the strainer was semi clogged so I left it off for the ride home. I checked the strainer and a few weeds but not much. I replaced the impeller (the old one looked perfect) and still no water. I removed and checked all hoses and the thru hull and everything is clear. I back flushed the heat exchanger and it was clear. I then took the impller housing off the genny and "bumped" the motor and the shaft sticking out of the side of the genny where the impeller attaches to is not turning. I started the genny for a few seconds and it's still not turning. Here are my questions:

Should this turn when the impeller housing is off and the motor is running? If so (and it's not) what is my fix? Can't get a good look in there to see if I need to remove the side cover where this piece attaches to and what I may find once I remove it. The shaft will turn by hand and will not come out if I try to pull it out.

Thanks for your help.

Perry,

Yes it should turn - and should NOT turn when the engine is off. Someone else will chime in, but I recall there is a coupler on the shaft. It is a cheap part - I never had mine break on my Kohler (that I no longer own), but I recall someone on the forum had the exact issue you have and it was the coupler.

Do you have a manual for your 5E?

I do and I searched the net. I think it's called a drive sleeve part # 359448. I'm having a hrd time figuring out where this part is mounted on the genny. Behind the plate where the water pump housing screws into?

After more searching I found my answer (although not sure if it's the problem). I found it on CSR and I have to take the big round plate off and it will be loctaed behind it. More work tomorrow in taking it all apart again and hopefully that's it.

I have the exact same scenerio-gen was running fine, impeller looks perfect, no water flow at all, get the LOC error, the shaft the impeller runs on will turn with fingers when off, and does not turn at all when gen is bumped over.

I can see the end of the coupling that is closest to the impeller. How can I tell if the coupling is in fact bad?

Many Thanks,
Bennett

Got it! Found the yellow coupling cracked and laying in the bottom just like above. Ordered two.

Thanks,
Bennett
