Hello, last you heard from me I had blown a u joint.

1991 5.7 Ltr. GM engine.

I replaced the u joints, center socket, gimbal bearing and seal, bellows etc. Put everything back together and engine would not start. It does turn over and am getting gas. I checked for spark at the plug and got nothing.

So I ordered a new coil. I installed the new coil and tried starting and nothing. I checked for spark coming from the coil to the distributor, nothing. Pushed fuse at key. I also pushed circuit breaker at the mercathode. Rotor does turn.

I found this site on the web, which showed me possible problems. http://www.sterndrives.com/no_start_condition.html

Below is a quick list of items which can cause a "no spark" condition from the coil:

1. A bad key switch.
2. A blown ignition fuse.
3. A bad harness connection or bad harness.
4. A bad shift cable.
5. A faulty Shift Interuptor Switch on the shift plate assembly.
6. A shorted tachometer.
7. A removed or faulty Safety Lanyard Switch.
8. A bad ignition coil.
9. Breaker Points worn or not adjusted (conventional ignition).
10. A bad condensor (conventional ignition).
11. A faulty sensor (Thunderbolt or Delco).
12. A bad Ignition Module (actually very rare).
13. A bad timing chain (rotor does not turn).

A few questions from this.
Where is the ignition fuse?
Where is shift interuptor switch?

I should add that last year I replaced the rotor, distributor cap, plugs and plug wires.

Before I replaced the coil a friend checked the output of the coil when I tried to start the engine. He was getting 35 volts.
