I was installing some new blowers and fired up the stbd engine. I was in a hurry and then I realized crap I didn't open the seacock......Took 15 minutes to take out the pump, took 3 1/2 hours to put it back because of the shims behind bracket....

I hope you went and dug out the fragments of the impeller from the heat exchangers, and oil coolers or you will have overheating issues most likely.

That looks bad a lot of pieces came off if any stayed on, my first failure was my fault too put oil on impeller to install in housing bad idea oil makes them swell up and freeze plus shredding belt. Hope you found all the pieces.

Couple drops of dish soap helps them slide in.I did both last month, hows those bruises on your chest? My old impellers were in good shape after 3 yrs and 100 hrs.

I used a dab of greese to put mine in is that bad? They have been pumping water for 3 hours of run time so far?

I did go look at the oil cooler and heat exchangers. Nothing. I was luck in that all the fins broke off whole and got jammed up in the pump housing not allowing anything to go down line. It is pumping lots of water now.

I put the pump together about 2 weeks before it was installed it had about 20 hours run time in 2 months before shrimp season when it seized up, I'd keep an eye on your pumps if you hear any squeals shut it down. The impellers actually swell with time with any petroleum product on them. I now use dish soap. I carry a spare pump and belt ready to be assembled.

Ouch! This one of those PITA jobs which blood, sweat and tears plus a couple of beer breaks is necessary to fix. I used a Silicon Grease Plumbers use on seals to put in the Impellers in all of my boats over many years with no issues. Also a large pillow on top of the Engine allow me to lay over it while servicing what ever needs to be repaired, no more bruises, just a lot of Band-Aids :smt001

Stories like these really make me appreciate my engine room. I sit on my bottom in front of my engine with my tool box next to me. And go to work so much room. 5 min out 5min in. Dont even have to take the belt off nust the back of the pump.

I'm in the process of changing both my sea water pumps. There is no room in my engine compartment. It amazes me that the boat builders don't think about making normal maintence items easy and accessible to repair.

Yes, BUT... you do have an aft cabin. So many boaters have commented, "there's no aft cabin??" when they ask my Amberjack's lay-out. It's like they believe I've been ripped off, buying a boat where SeaRay forgot to include an aft cabin! Boats usually involve compromises and ER access vs interior space is usually one of them.

ER access was near the top of my "must have" list when shopping for my last two boats. Three boats ago I realized that standing on my head and even then, only being able to work with one hand was taking the "pleasure" out of "pleasure boating" for me!

As several have mentioned, the instructions specifically state NOT to use petroleum products on the impeller. Use soapy water or silicone....
