i have a 06 290 sundancer. i am the second owner and found out recently that the guage lights are not on. when the engines are first started, the lights come on for 2 seconds and then go out.
when i turn the nav lites on the compass lite as well as the nav and anchor lites come on but no guage lites.
i have tried every switch but to no avail. my dealer is quite far away and a phone call went unanswered.
since they first come on it is probably not a fuse. any advice?

If you have SmartCraft system view, the dimmer for the dash gauges are controlled by it (under settings). That's the setup I have. Sounds like the dimmer may be set all the way down. I have a dimmer control on the dash, but it only controls the compass and stereo remote lighting.

that was it waterlogged. i thank you for the info that even my dealer didn't know.if in cape breton, i owe you a drink.

I had the same issue and it's on the warantee repair list.
We'll see how quickly the tech figrues it out.

I'm also having a problem with the GPS data not showing up on the system view. I wonder if when when diagnosing this problem they reset the system view.
The lights gauge lights worked before and now just come on for second.

Glad I logged on tonight!
Thanks!

If you have a C80, I don't believe (unfortunately) it can communicate with SmartCraft. From what I recall, RayMarine uses a proprietary "standard" rather than NEMA which the SmartCraft uses. If anyone knows a way, I'd love to hear about it. It's frustrating to look at some of the functions on Smartcraft and see the message "GPS Data Not Available".

CBO?

What I have is the typical Raymarine unit that came with the boat.
The data wires go to a little junction block mounted under the steering column. This block also feeds the VHF radio which is getting the signal and displays the Log / lat.

The Tech said that Mercruiser wanted him to remove and send in the Smart Craft unit to be re-programmed to a different version (number) software.

I guess we'll see what happens?
Thanks!

ooops. I guess I was tired.

I'll let you know if / how my dealer resolves the GPS data problem if there is one and / or if they confirm that I was sold something that I didn't get.

Thanks again!

waterlogged..
The tech called me this afternoon.
They sent the "system view" unit to mercruiser and they re-programmed it. It's back on the boat and working. He also found that the signal wires from the chartplotter to the "system-view" were backwards. This was after the re-programming still didn't work.
Anyway he said it works now. He adjusted the gauge lights and said thanks for the tip because he probably would have spent at least a few hours before figuring that out.

I'll be on the boat this weekend and report back.
So it seems that, at least with my setup that it should work.
I hope to see some paperwork on this too to learn a little more about what was done.
Hopefully I can give you some info to get yours working.

Had a great weekend.
The gps is hooked up to the "System View" and works.
Now I need to learn how to make use of the new info!
The gauge lights work as well thanks to those here!
